AJ was by far the worst contractor we have worked with during the course of our home renovation. AJ was subcontracted to complete window trim, casings and sills for all of the replaced windows in our home. AJ showed up hours late every day, worked for an hour or two and then took a nap in his truck for an hour. When he finally resumed working it took a week to see any kind of progress being made. After he started the job at our house and working for a week, he decided it was a good idea to go on vacation for a week and didn't tell our contractor prior to hiring him.
What should take an experienced finish carpenter about an hour per window, it took AJ days to complete. His actual finish carpentry work is mediocre at best. There were multiple nail blow outs, cracked trim and window sills on almost every piece he installed. He and his crew barely cleaned up after each day and his lack of attention to detail was evident as we had to clean up after him each day and pick up multiple nails from around his work space daily. We have two small children, and this safety issue is completely unacceptable.
When he and his crew did clean up their mess, I saw one of his members using our dogs pooper scooper in our house as a dust pan to sweep up their mess. The lack of common sense and incompetence here was almost enough to fire them on the spot. If we weren't under a time crunch to get this work done, I would have happily fired him and waited for a more professional carpenter to finish the job.
Aside from his actual work, his unprofessionalism was clear as to why he was the third choice to complete this job. AJ did more talking than working at times and always had an excuse as to why he was moving at a snails pace. He complained that our garage where he would set up his saw and make his cuts was too far from where he had to walk to in the house to install each piece.
AJ made our nanny feel very uncomfortable multiple times with the flirtatious comments he made to her while she was home alone in our house taking care of our baby. He would casually try to initiate conversation with her when he was supposed to be working which is probably one of the reasons he took so long to complete the job.
I do not recommend.
