I write this review as a warning to others not to use this contractor. I met and hired Alfonso del Real with the intention of having my kitchen remodeled. Upon meeting Alfonso, he gave the impression of being a professional, ethical business person. He made a point of signing the contract in person and was very respectful at the beginning but as the weeks wore on, suspicious behavior ensued. He wasn’t on the jobsite often, but if he appeared, it was generally to let me know of a problem. The most egregious of the untruths told was in regards to my HVAC system in the attic. In my attic, he told me that his crew noticed that parts of my HVAC system appeared to have been destroyed. I had only just replaced the entire system shortly before they began work and aside from the HVAC crew, no one had been in my attic since the new system was implemented. (I also noticed that a number of my can lights were no longer flush with the ceiling that week of his visit) I called the HVAC company and they came out and confirmed that yes, portions of the system were destroyed and fixed it. Although he never admitted to his crew damaging the system, it was clear that Luxor Construction did the damage in the attic to the system.
In addition to the above, Alfonso attempted to overcharge me for a countertop purchase. He had told me that the countertop I purchased was no longer in stock and I needed to drive to Emeryville to receive a refund. When I asked the store clerk about the situation, she was curt and did not want to discuss it. From there, Alfonso ordered a similar looking countertop. When he invoiced me, he provided my original receipt as the backup for reimbursement. When I brought this to his attention, he dropped off the new receipt which was more than a thousand dollars less.
At the final review, it was brought to Alfonso’s attention that the door and window frames he and his crew built did not measure properly. He brought out his laser ruler and saw for himself that the frames were not parallel or of the same height. I also let him know that the stove was not wired correctly. When we spoke, he said he would return the following week to fix the problems stated, as well as move a giant piece of countertop left in my front yard and return my house key. Since then, I have emailed and texted him with no response. I also now realize that the kitchen wiring is faulty in general as I cannot turn on my microwave without shorting all the outlets in the kitchen.
I plan to get in touch with the Better Business Bureau and Contractors Association, but in the meantime, I wanted this out there so that no one else finds themselves in this predicament with Luxor Construction. Do not hire.
