Lesson Learned on hiring a contractor, don’t hire the feel-good local guy. There is a reason small business loses out to corporate monsters and its simple, the corporate monster does things by the book and knows that lies are caught and cost business. We bought a house without a garage knowing we had to build one right away and wanted it to have 220v outlets to charge the wife’s Nissan Leaf.
I had to fight him to do the work properly and as requested the whole way through the job. The roof had to be redone as the trim was put on backward and the main panels were not secured. The concrete was poured in the rain without a tarp. The electric was a long comedy of errors. The framing looks novice. So many aspects of this job that left a bad taste and he handled all of it poorly.
DO NOT USE Kurt Kissmann with BAUHAUS BUILDER CORP for any project you want done right or fast. After 7 long months I finally have a garage that I’m going to have to have the concrete repaired inside of 6 months of use as it was done in the cheapest way possible. After he asked for final payment, meaning job was done, there was already a crack in the unlevel, multicolored concrete floor. In that time, he lied directly to me on numerous occasions, cut every possible corner that could be cut and found a few that didn’t need cut. In talking with several of his subs throughout the job, I found that most are refusing to work with him on future jobs because of his inability to schedule a workload or pay for a true scope of work. Buyer beware, I’m a studious person and do my homework but sometimes it just doesn’t work out.
