We sued Brady construction and with treble damages was awarded in excess of $360,000 (yes, you read that right) which we will never collect. The money that paid to correct his mistakes was what we had saved for our kids college. His wife told me that in order to work out our differences, we needed to talk to their pastor because we had 'sinned' against them (what, expecting things to be right, legal, safe and according to contract is a sin?) Apparently, the judge agreed with us.
Problems included:
* tried to install an addition to the septic instead of a new septic. NEW SEPTIC was clearly outlined in the contract.
* changed the design of the front stairway because what was in the drawing and the contract was 'too expensive'
* framed a wall such that the pocket doors (which he had NOT installed the frame for by the time he had started drywall!) wouldn't open even halfway.
* drywall over LIVE electrical wires that were left coiled and unconnected. They were supposed to power blowers in the HVAC that were never installed. But the blowers were a concession because the HVAC wasn't done properly.
* hardwired smoke detectors were never powered and ran on battery until we figured it out.
These are just a few examples. We had a list of nearly 50 items like this. We had to tear out drywall in basement, completely redo the HVAC, rewire multiple items, completely replace the leach field because they had ruined it by the way they approached the septic install, etc.
They started the project in January. By the following January (when we fired them), they were just starting drywall. No windows by the first freeze in October (and, therefore, burst pipes we had to fix). Buyer beware.
