I wanted very much to leave a positive review for this builder, but unfortunately the buying experience has been so bad that I can’t. Cedar & Sage built the Cascade Reach Townhomes in Suncadia where I was the very first buyer, and the first homeowner to close escrow. Over a year later, I’m still waiting for my home to be finished. The team are all good people; I think the problem is that they’re in way over their head and that they have no one with solid project management skills. That, and the fact that they’ve left the part of Washington where they built.
I had a list of fairly simple typical new home punch list items, and a few serious safety items, that I tried for more than eighth month to get fixed. They kept saying “they would get to it” but never did. Think about that; you buy a new home and eight months later you’re still waiting for them to complete the construction defects. I finally had to hire a lawyer to get any movement on at all on my open items, at my expense.
That finally prompted some action but cost me a lot in legal fees. And things still aren’t done. I keep trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, and keep learning the hard way that that this is not a reliable or responsible builder. One year after I closed escrow, there are still defective railings on second and third floor balconies held in place with temporary metal straps, heating wires installed on the roof to help control ice build-up on the front stairs that have ever been connected, and a big iron chain has been hanging down from the roof were a drain pipe was supposed to be. There are cracks in the stairwell on adjacent walls. Forget the idea of a home warranty with this builder.
Cascade Reach is a collection of twenty-four townhomes. Eighteen have been completed and closed escrow with people living in them and yet the site still looks and feels like an active construction zone with trash everywhere, a lack of landscaping in most areas leaving just exposed earth from when the foundations were laid which is nothing more than mud and puddles of water. And eighteen of the final count of twenty-four eventual homeowners have nowhere to take our trash. We have to walk a half block to use the bins at some other community in the ice and snow, and most of the time those bins are full. The last six units are sold and nearly done, but I don’t think the builder will ever actually finish the property.
I have no confidence any of these issues will be addressed anytime soon. I’ve lived here a year. The builder has left Suncadia and moved on. Maybe that’s their pattern; build, collect all the money, and move on. There are builders like that. What I have outlined here is fair and truthful, and I would highly recommend not choosing Cedar & Sage to build your home, or purchasing any property they’re related to.
