By Virginia M.September 3, 2015Replace retaining wall, fence, gate and level yard/clean debris$7,000.003 daysDon't Use Chris J. White Contracting!
Do NOT use this guy. We paid him $7,000 and did not complete the contracted job and the little work he did was not only poor but our neighbors are all commenting on how bad things look. Boo hiss on me paying him a day early - I can't believe I put my trust in this very tall (over 6 feet) smooth-talker. He was listed on home advisor and they have stepped in however with no luck so far as he is not returning our calls or Home Advisor calls. Don't use HomeAdvisor either obviously. We took out a loan to have this wall built, fence with gate replaced and yard cleaned of debris and leveled. Wall wasn't done right (no footers and is not level), fence is so warped and not fitting because of bad job on wall that he can't even get the gate on. They left old fence posts in yard - basically just hacked the polls and left rusty stubs hidden in grass. Did not level or clean debris from yard. Would love to help arrange for a protest with possibly a news reporter as apparently taking him to small claims court, calling PA attorney general etc .has not worked for anyone yet as far as I can tell. Any interest?

By AnonymousJune 9, 2015Replace Retaining wall and steps in front of home$13,00023 daysGood Intentions but Bad OutcomesRead more
So I used an app 'Home Advisor' and Chris was provided my info and called me to bid on replacing my retaining wall, steps and put veneer stone on the exposed cinder-block foundation. I got two different bids but went with Chris because he said he could get the job done in a week. He is a smooth talker. Had I read the comments on this site, I would NEVER have hired him. We all know that you should NEVER pay the contractor in full until the job is FINISHED and I gave him his last check the day before they were finished.
I did not ask for any deals, special treatment, or discounts and expected quality work for quality cash.
He is supposed to come here today so we can discuss issues that I have found with his work. He never showed when his workers were done to inspect the finished product (which it was far from finished according to my terms). What Chris said he would do and what I was left with weren't the same things.
Here is my list of issues:
Clean up
empty bottles in yard / empty coffee cups
cigarette butts everywhere
cement leftovers in yard
French drain
Never installed as discussed– what happens when water/ice in the winter builds up
Finished product
Roots sticking out – hanging over wall on steps
Yard not dug out as it should have been
No landscaping / plants as discussed – “I’ll make it look nice for you”
Steps
No landing half way up as discussed
Wall is leaning on steps
Small pavers on steps and not one piece as shown in picture
Several were not glued and my niece twisted her ankle when paver came out from under her foot
Wall
Chipped blocks used – need replaced
Corner caps need replaced with correct type (rough edge on both sides)
Blocks with cut marks – need replaced
Gap – 4 inch - in wall cap on steps
Caps need replaced with correct style going up steps (rough edges and overhang as rest of wall)
Cement on blocks – both places that cement was replaced
Wall needs to be longer or finished look on edge of driveway
House Foundation
Veneer stone looks nice but some big gaps
Used left-over pieces
Landscape Lights
Outside outlet not used – needs replaced with proper outlet
No power for outlet
Light closest to outlet was broken during installationChris showed up with 3 workers this morning - they are digging out the wall along the steps to put more gravel and straighten it. They are digging a lot more yard out and working on the finished look of the yard. I am making him replace the outside outlet that he installed with an actual outside outlet with cover plate. The guys have a lot of 'repairs' to do since they were told by Chris to have the job finished on Friday.
I truly wonder if the only reason he came back and jumped on getting all the issues fixed is because I was discussing another big job with him and he wants to get that contract too.
Not thinking I will sign on the dotted line for that work. I believe everyone deserves a second chance but seems to me that everyone in these reviews gave him a chance to improve his work ethic. Like my parents always told us growing up - 'If you are not going to do it right, don't do it at all'
I will submit another review IF the issues with my wall are redone correctly. UPDATE: July 24, 2015: If I could provide a minus, I would give him a minus 10 Stars. Stay away - he promises work but never does what you asked for or what he says. He is a smooth-talking conartist. I am pretty stupid for giving him the second chance that he begged me for and let him do another job. BIG mistake. If he did any of the work at my house, then he cannot plaster, he cannot put hardy board down and level out a floor and he cannot frame in a wall without it running downhill. He cannot hang a door, he doesn't know what a bay window is or even how to install a cheap window. He left an entire box of ceramic tile that he dropped and broke in my front yard. He put new outlets in my walls but left just the wiring hanging out all over that isn't even capped. I cannot use part of the electricity in my house now because if I turn that breaker back on, it will probably cause a fire. WHAT A PIECE OF WORK THIS GUY IS. Please, learn from my mistakes, DO NOT GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO RUIN YOUR HOUSE. HE IS A JOKE -
By TomMarch 18, 2015French drain and concrete pad/steps$8,00030 daysChris White is a criminal
Hired to install a French drain and concrete work. I agree with earlier comment that Chris White is a con artist and an experienced criminal that takes advantage of people. DO NOT HIRE HIM.

By AngelaFebruary 10, 2015remodeling,plumbing,electrical$4,1005 daysBEWARE OF CHRIS WHITERead more
******BEWARE!!!!!! This guy brings a whole new meaning to "CON" in the word CONTRACTOR aka CON ARTIST. He changes his name and business name, another I'm aware of is called "All Affordable Contracting".
He will convince you of great work done at a great price and in a timely manner but it is done horribly amateur!!! I found out the hard way that this could of been deadly if you are getting electrical work done, as I have needed.
I have to get his work redone includes: •No tape on drywall seams.
•Portions of drywall in basement installed upside down.
•Large gaps hand cut around ceil light holes so plates can't cover it. (offered to let him use our circular tool)
•Crooked square cuts around light switch that is bigger than lightplate to cover it.
•Big wasted gobs of drywall mud hanging inside frame he built where watersoftner sits.
•Never cleaned area before putting up enclosing wall around watersoftener tank.
•Cracked drywall mud from no use of tape & using improper mud in a cold temps.
•Drywall ceiling was not leveled & crooked in 3 places.
•Huge 1 to 2 inch gaps where wall meets ceiling.
•Jagged crooked drywall corners
•Broke door knob, then used my money to buy wrong type of doorknob that doesn't fit & cant lock. Never told me so I was left in a position where someone could of walked into my home.
•Bent 1 of our metal square tools.
•Took our dolly & ladder & now waiting for its return
•Improperly installed subfloor, not glued & Screwed improperly for ceramic tile, cant be installed since the floor is too flexible & tile would of cracked along w/ grout. Must be redone.
•Installed Windows improperly. Used existing charred wood frame on 1 window.
•insulated walls w/o enough studs in place.
•improperly connected 1 rooms electric to another & can overload circuit. Used 14 gage instead of 12 & can cause fire.
•Vanity Mirror was found broken under his tools & equipment where he set up work area. I kept my truck in the driveway so they can full access to the garage.
•He said he would have basement/bathroom done in 3-3 1/2 days & mudroom done in 2-2 1/2 days. On the 5th day neither room was even close to being complete & ready for us to paint.
•He said he would have 3 people on the job, only himself & his relative were there for 1st 3 days.
• For 2 days there was another person added, he tore up floor in my kitchen instead of completing the other 2 rooms.
•He said I could add an additional person for $150 per day but I did not understand why I would have to pay when he agreed to have all work done in apprx.14 days on agreed amount of $14,500.
• Chris, brother in law & additional person added on last 2 days, were on premise 6 1/2 hrs per day.
• I found out AFTER agreeing to let him work for me that he included his drive time with his relative as part of the daily hourly wage.
•He left on that Fri in the afternoon for 2 1/2 hrs. w/o letting me know. He said he was picking up a propane heater from his shop because the mudroom was too cold even tho mudroom was being insulated & my kitchen door was open to let the warm air of the house in. He was also offered to used heaters, which he told me were "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" as he put it. Chris also asked me to give him $25 to use his propane heater. He was fired over that weekend.
*Pictures provided for all complaintsAs I write this. His "work" is so bad that a professional contractor with a high BBB standing told me that it should be used in a documentary showing how badly you can get ripped off.
Further action is being taken against him..please call me if you have been the victim of this man. Angela D'Ambrosio 4126671000

Horrible experience. Very poor work and he left without finishing. I have called the Attorney General office and suggest others do the same.

Worst contractor in the area. DO NOT HIRE. this man is a professional con man he did such horrible work at my house that it took 30 days and a ton of money to fix everything that he did wrong. In the middle of filing a civil suit because now he will not return my calls

By AnonymousSeptember 7, 2014concrete steps$7,00030 daysdropped the ball
Hired to do some concrete steps. He brought a truck in and crushed the driveway when he was told to avoid the driveway. He said he would be able to use a georgia buggy, which is a gas powered wheel barrow. Must have forgot that because not only do the steps need torn out, but now the driveway needs to be resurfaced or dug out. Chris is both greedy and unscrupulousness.

This guy is a sweet talking con man. We hired him to build a deck, retaining wall and to excavate our yard. My back yard looks terrible. The deck he built is uneven, with floor boards coming up already (it's been one week) and missing nails EVERYWHERE. The retaining wall he built isn't level and there are one inch gaps between the bricks. The two sets of stairs he "Built" are not up to code and look terrible. The walkway is uneven and not level. DO NOT HIRE HIM!! We learned this the hard way.

Don't really know why the other reviews arent satisfactory (especially since I am hard to please) This contractor did my 2/3 of the exterior and interior remodeling of my foreclosed home beautifully. The house needed a lot of work and this company did a great job with keeping the place clean, and did quality work. I have hired them to do more work to the backyard this summer. Great job!!!

Chris promises a lot and delivers a little. He has a young crew who need supervision to do any good work . Worst contracting experience I've ever had. Pushed us off for week after payment- then only half the crew promised. said "doesnt work weekends "or bad weather even though those weekends were perfect.Poor grading of slope , bad concrete finish, finally after giving him a fix it punch list he tried to finish things to just get a final payment but the workmanship was so poor with defects and debris like a 2x3 ft section of concrete left on site we will have no choice but to withhold payment and engage another contractor. Broken pipes covered up, terrible forming and finish. Two thumbs down- way down . Avoid this guy.

Price quoted was good for french drains and grading of a pathway into an actual stone driveway. Day 1 work was clean and efficient. Day 2, he had started another job and was coming back and forth. He was hurried and careless. The amount of stone left on the driveway is so deep the driveway cannot be used. The grading in the back of the house has a 12" dropoff into a gulley that is 2' wide and runs along the back of the house against the house wall. The grading in the front yard is sloppy, uneven and several feet lower than it had been. After many, many calls he has done nothing. He answered one call saying he'd come to repair things, but never came and quit taking calls. Not trustworthy, careless. Definitely would not recommend.

Chris and his team replaced a front retaining wall and did a great job. They arrived as scheduled and did exactly what had been discussed. The price was reasonable compared to what others had proposed for the same job. I left before the process started and was very surprised when I returned to a new wall, with no signs that demolition and construction had even taken place. They were very neat. All old materials had been removed, and they even replanted my plants, that needed to be moved during the process.
