Permits
- Building permit records show that Classic American Building and Remodeling has worked on 287 permitted projects.
We contracted with this company to build our ~$.5M custom home to be completed within six months of permitting. The builder missed the six month contractual deadline. After 7.5 months, the builder walked off the job the day the quartz countertops were scheduled for installation. We then worked with his out-of-town financial partner to get construction restarted - this partner became our contact at that point. The builder continued to miss revised completion deadlines with no explanation. Ten months into construction, the builder recorded a lien against our property for the last draw being held by the mortgage company, even though construction was not complete and he owed us credits for custom purchases we made. Eleven months into construction the builder, without a word to us, had the electricity and water turned off (freezer ice maker drained all over the kitchen), obtained a Certificate of Occupancy (not sure how with exposed electrical hanging from junction box), and stopped work on our home. The house was incomplete per the contract. Our mortgage company demanded we modify our loan from construction to perm (mortgage clause existed for this to happen within 10 months of construction loan origination or Certificate of Occupancy, whichever came first). The builder's lien, and now two liens from subcontractors that have not been paid, is preventing us from making this modification. The final product has been deemed incomplete and poor workmanship construction by a certified professional engineer. Four contractors have estimated the cost to complete at ~2-3 times the remaining draw money. We have retained legal counsel to fight this battle. We have expended 1000s of $ for extra rent, builders risk insurance/vacant property insurance, lost interest rate lock, attorney's fees, and the list goes on.
