Owner
Coombs & associates was the architect on the renovation of my brownstone - which was essentially a gut renovation of the bottom two floors. They were excellent - I would highly recommend them and intend to use them again when I renovate my backyard.
Key things that stand out to me about Coombs & associates:
The owner use to work at DOB - so VERY knowledgeably about all NYC codes/regulations
The owner has an excellent eye and does his best to create everything you envision
The owner has structural engineers on staff, his own exp editor and knows 3rd party inspectors so he's full service
The owner has good relationships with contractors, so he knows how to get stuff done
The owner is very skillful in design elements that really create a unique and/or upscale look (depending our your taste)
Coombs and associates deliver detailed plans (again with all the NYC codes and inspectors in mind) so that any contractor worth his salt can build
