  Work on the exterior of my house

  I hired Derek in Sept 2024. Said I needed work done within 3 weeks, or else my insurance world be cancelled. He said no problem. Got 3 quotes all together, and because he gave me a discount (for First Responders), his quote came within my budget, so I hired him. He never started when he said he would. I gave him a larger deposit than I was planning on, but he had already typed up the contract, and I met him before work. I really needed him to start asap so I gave him a deposit of 11, 145.15, (total job was $15982.44. I know I shouldn’t have paid him so much, but with 3 weeks to get the job done r, making up a new contract and meeting another day, was not an option for me, with my crazy work schedule. He never started when he said he would. Was full of excuses. Told ne he had a crew of men. Nope. Just one guy, and sonetimes his gf who was always high, or she slept in the car while he worked. He never had a truck. Always walked to work or got dropped off by gf or mother. Gave excuses everyday for not arriving when he said he would, or leaving after 2 hours. A few times he said he’d be back and never came back! The work he did do was awful! Used nails on a deck and they were put in the wrong way. Wood was full of knots and cracks. Took off the facia, never replaced it. Now it’s full of animals. He wanted another $1000 to do facia. I refused and that’s when he never showed up again. My insurance was cancelled and ultimately had to find new insurance. He refused to get a permit when I told him to do so. Said I didn’t need one. Put a license number on my contact and flashed at least 6 licenses to me. (Electrical, plumbing, etc). Steps he built include a 3”, step as well as an 8”, 9”, and 7”. Plus a 13” drop off. The list goes on and on. I have contacted the state’s Consumer Protection Agency and they are filing a repost with the State Atty General’s office, and they will be charging him, based on me picking him out of a lineup. I am also in the process of taking him to small claims. He is a drug addiction. Showed up high on something everyday. He screwed me out of all my savings. DO NOT hire him!!!! He is not licensed and doesn’t know what he’s doing!

  Install walk in shower and tile a floor

  $2,050

  Hired Derek to go look at an apartment i am moving into to see what needs to be done. He said the bathroom wall is full of mold and I wanted the one bedroom to have new flooring put down. He quoted me 500 but I offered to pay him 1000 to make sure everything was done correctly and ready for me to move in asap. I paid him immediately. This was november 8th. He then told me he has a spare pan to turn the tub into a walk in shower since im in a wheelchair and disabled so it would be easier. He said the back piece for the shower unit is around $300. I said ok and sent him the extra $300 immediately as well. He went in and tore down the entire bathtub wall and took the tub out. He then told me that the wood and the insulation needed to be replaced and said it will be an extra $710. So i sent that immediately as well. He never even went back to the house. He left it like that all torn up and a mess. He knew i needed it done by the 3rd of december. Now i am stuck not able to move and have to pay rent at two apartments til i can move. I also had a new person go see how much it will cost me to have them finish the work. They said derek had no reason to tear the entire wall down. And the part he had for the shower wasnt even the right size. Derek hadn't purchased any of the materials he asked for extra money for. I had also asked him to make 5 copies of the only key I had since he had the key to be able to get in. He told me that was about $26 so I sent him 30. I never saw one key. Not even my only copy of my key. He took over $2000 dollars from me and all he did is tear down a wall remove the tub and took the pipe out so now I have to hire a plumber as well to replace that and left a mess. He sprayed the mold. That is the only part he did that he was supposed to. Nothing else. Now it is costing me almost another $2000 to fix the mess that he made. I told Derek what the new guy said and Derek freaked out at me and then I asked for just half of my money back since he didn't do anything and didn't even buy any of the materials. He blocked me. I'm disabled and on dialysis and live off ssi. I can't afford this. He knew all of this and took advantage of me. I found out afterwards that he has done this to many many other people and has a long criminal history including fraud drugs and even strangled someone! Please don't anyone ever use him. He will come off as a nice guy and when I first met him when he came to hook up my gas stove he was a very nice guy. But I guess a short 10 15 minute interaction isn't enough to judge someone.
