  complete condo remodel

  $155,000

  On 8/12/2021, I signed a contract with Direct Remodels to remodel my condo for $155,000. At signing, I provided a deposit of $18,334. I recently learned that Direct Remodel drew $37,612 from my PowerPay Remodeling Loan 8/12/2021 without my consent. The remodel loan is a progress stage based loan and no work has been started and no materials have been ordered. The permit for the job was not granted until 5/23/22. Direct Remodel did not take measures of the sliding doors, or complete architecture drawings for my approval until May 2022. Therefore, no materials could have possibly been ordered between 8/12/2021 and 5/23/2022. Direct Remodels has had a total of $55,946 of my money since 8/12/2021 which I am paying interest on and making payments of more than $1000 per month which was not supposed to happen until the completion of the contract.
  Direct Remodels has recently contacted me to request to be left out of the contract because they have never had the manpower or the skills required to complete my remodel. They are proposing doing the sliding doors only, which is their original business scope and be released from the rest of the remodel contract. After investigation, I am not able to have the same scope of work done for less than $275,000.
  Direct Remodels sent a different general contractor to my home to look at doing the job on Direct Remodels behalf. The General Contractor, Elite, indicated that they could not do the work per the original contract and requoted just the remodel, without the sliding doors, for $160,000. The 36 floor to ceiling sliding doors will cost $125,000 using Stormfiters as the vendor.
  The owner of Elite Contracting, RJ, and an employee of Director Remodels told me that Direct Remodels knew from the beginning that they could not complete this contract as written. They also indicated that they are running a Ponzi scheme, taking money from many different customers like

  Bathroom/ Bedroom Reno

  $330,000

  Paid over 30k for a bedroom/ bathroom reno that was started the beginning of December and still not close to being complete. The company subcontracts out the work and we have one guy doing an entire remodel, demo and all. He pays a plumber and tile guy each have been here one day. The sub comes and goes as he pleases, somedays he shows and some days he doesn't. I have asked for a completion date from the company's foreman who over sees the project but get a run around and blaming the permit person.
  This company started work without permits or a "Notice of Commencement" Then when permits were finally submitted they were inaccurate and the wrong type. Currently there has been no work for over a week and good luck getting an answer on what is happening. Last response I got was 3 days ago and read in a text "I reached out to that department for an update". Like their permit office is in another state or something. I can see what is happening on the Hillsborough.gov website.
  Maybe this is a company that did windows and is now expanding because one of the permits was for a window replacement which I am not having done. However, I would not recommend them for a large project as they do not seem to have their process in order.
  Will update work from tile and subcontractor when/ if completed as I cannot hold him responsible for company's inefficient office management. I have had nothing but excuse after excuse from this company. Don't get me started on the sales guy. When asking for an itemized breakdown of project I am told he is on maternity leave and seems that no one is covering for him to get that for me?

  Next week I will be talking with a Lawyer for advice. I strongly suggest you find another contractor!!

  Kitchen remodel

  $15,350

  We are currently dealing with a kitchen remodel that has been going on since Feb 15th and STILL is not finished. Between the lack of communication, the missed days where the installers are a no-show ( 1 o r 2 installers at most each day at any given time for the duration of the install. ), to the days we are waiting around for someone all day to be called at the end of the day to say that they are not coming. Even from unfinished work to having a whole room without power for over a week.

  This has turned from something that was supposed to be an amazing experience. All we have experienced is lots of talk with nothing to back it up, basically what you see on the news about remodeling nightmares. This job was marked as complete with no walk through. With lower cabinets that are not leveled which threw the grout line completely off, to the higher ones almost falling on you with the first cabinet installed. Back splash that is uneven, not smoothly cut, nor sanded to where my kids can hurt their selves! To slapping an extra piece of cabinet paneling onto a cabinet with wood exposed calling it "done". We submitted a punch list of work that needs to be fixed and/or to be completed, so now we are stuck waiting around for the company to find someone willing to deal with it.
