My family and I were unfortunately victims of a house fire. We were displaced from our home and lost everything. We lost our dog to smoke inhalation and we were devastated but this was only the beginning of an already bad situation. when Steve from dry masters was referred to us, My wife and I, in our naivety, agreed to have Steve and his people do the interior demo. I wish we would of been clear minded enough to have done some research about Dry Masters but we were still in disbelief and dazed at the time. At first Steve seemed understanding and we thought everything was going ok. Before the full demo started Steve and I did a walk through with my wife on video (since shes pregnant) to see what might be salvageable. One of our rooms was closed off and luckily for us not as affected but still had smoke damage, so we told Steve and a woman whom he introduced as "his partner" the things we hoped to save and Steve would respond with "I will let my guys know what to put in the pod". I smelled our coats and they didnt smell like smoke so i told them to put everything from that closet (my suits, my wife's wedding dress, outer wear, coats) in the storage pod, to later find out this wasn't done. The coats, shoes, jewelry we were missing was not in the dumpsters or the pod I checked. This led me to believe someone helped themselves to our stuff. Steve also took advantage and decided to used the dumpsters our insurance was paying for to dump his trash from other jobs without asking us and we believe he wouldn't have said anything had we not noticed. When i went to my house with my wife one day to see how the demo was going I walked in and saw a work bag that I normally kept in my basement office in our living room. When i checked it, it was half empty. Problem is until the fire investigator completed his investigation, the kitchen ( where the fire started) and basement were taped off and OFF LIMITS, Steve knew this. Our basement is accessed through our kitchen so when i saw the basement door open and things out of place i was concerned. When i walked through the basement door to look around I immediately knew something was wrong because it was ransacked. I checked our egress window and saw it was left unlocked. Almost as if someone wanted to have access and go unnoticed. The only way to unlock this window is from the inside and we always kept all the windows locked because of our toddler. A week earlier Steve and I had a walk through the basement and it was not in disarray and again didnt get what we asked to save. Instead in our pod we got bags of chips and sodas that could of been tossed 3boxes of junk and my computer chair that smells like smoke. we even asked Steve what he recommend we keep because of the soot. For a while Steve had the keys to the pod until he gave my wife a key and kept the other. We just thought thats how it was. When we tried to bring these concerns up to Steve, about the missing items and ransacking Steve became defensive and NEVER took accountability. He instead insisted "none" of his workers would ever do anything like this yet you say you "fired" one of your men, so which is it ? He told us he instructed his people " if you see something valuable put it in the pod" but they understood differently i guess. Here's the thing, Steve and his people and our adjust were the only ones with access because we have a digital Keypad on our front door, no one else had the code to get in. Our adjuster lives a far away and always let us know when he was going by for any reason. Steve put air scrubbers, fans to get rid smell, and did the demolition but he submitted a 25+ page "invoice" to our insurance for paint, "cleaning", sanitizing and repairs that were never done. Complete scammers. Going through this has been mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting enough but to also have people take advantage of us when we have nothing is low and makes it feel that much worse. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this company, they definitely don't have your best interest at heart no matter the circumstances.
Update, I found out Steve never pulled a permit for the demo before it was done so I had to take time out of my busy work day and go to city hall to get it. 2 1/2 hours and $400+ later I had a permit and inspection scheduled.
