DMG built a custom home for us. His attention to detail was impressive. I would give him five stars for quality of construction. The reason I rated him only two stars is that he completely cleaned all of the money out our construction loan line of credit by telling the bank he had finished the project and then disappeared with the home about 60-70% finished. We began calling subcontractors to see why they weren't showing up on the job and were informed that none of them had been paid in months. We had to write out personal checks for over $70,000 to back-pay the subs. When we confronted Dwayne about this, he produced an entirely handwritten cost sheet that simply didn't add up. He stopped returning our calls. We had to pay out of pocket to finish the construction. We estimate that we lost approximately $280,000 in work not done and subcontractors not paid. The 4 month project took nearly a year before we started acting as our own general contractor. The worst part was that when we put the house up for sale a year later, Dwayne showed up at my place of work and demanded $22,000 that he had "forgotten to bill me". When I refused to pay, he told me that he had seen on the county records that our house was under contract with a buyer, and that if I didn't pay he would put a lien on the home. He said that we would be unable to sell the home as long as he had the lien, and that we would have to fight a protracted court battle to get the lien removed. Dwayne was very responsive during the early construction process, and he does quality construction, but using him was easily the most expensive decision of my life.
