  If you are looking for a professional contractor to do your work, then run away from this one. The negative reviews are real and wish we would have taken heed before hiring Howard Shane Shafer's company First Coast Contractors. Do your own research too...google Howard Shane Shafer and his company and consider the reviews.
  Our Negatives:
  1. They are johnny on the spot when collecting payment but very much unreliable for doing the actual work on the days promised. What was supposed to take 3 to 4 weeks to complete -- took 4 months!
  2. Lack of proper and timely communication. Most times, we initiated the call to find out what the status was, why no workers showed up, etc. Excuses after excuses why no work was going to happen on the days they said it would. Not cool Shane, not cool at all.
  3. Does not come out to oversee work being done by workers to make sure things are being done properly. But quick to come out to pick up a payment. A good contractor will come out on the job periodically to see the quality of his company's work.
  4. The final product was not the best or worst. We did not care to point out the issues anymore as we wanted them gone, so we would not have to deal with him anymore.
  5. Failed county inspection 2 x's because engineer plan was not followed.
  6. Other negative reviews are real as we went through some of the same issues. I wish we would have taken heed.
  7. Did not properly clean up. Workers left trash around in the yard.
  Positive:
  1. Office Manager (wife) and assistant are pleasant over the phone.
  2. Learning experience and we know to put more detailed information in writing for our protection.

  Caution!! Do not hire.

  Don't make the same mistake I did. Do NOT hire FCC, Inc. Shane Shafer. I have a bill that they did not pay from Owen Electric. I also have work here left undone. Shoddy work from the start This company did NOT live up to the "stories" of greatness told by Shane Shafer. The work at my house was to start on July 8th, 2015. I gave them a check for the down payment on June 16th. It's October folks and I'm still waiting and wondering if this work will ever be complete. Pavers are not installed right. I am not alone. This company has been making a small army of haters. Check them out and see for your selves. Not Good at all. Zero stars!!!

  Get references on this contractor before you sign anything!!
  Always have an excuse why they can't work on days when they say they will. Then don't answer the phone. Not a good way to do business. Make sure they have paid any contractors they use before you pay them as we received a bill from a plumber 2 months after the project was completed and paid for.

  Shane Shafer, First Coast Contractors, Inc. 400 S. Ponce DeLeon Blvd. St. Augustine, Fl. 904-547-2524. NOT a good company. Hire someone else. They give you the run around, don't answer calls, don't return calls, shoddy work, permits?? I can't find mine. Do Not hire them. Gave Shane a check on June 16th, 2015. As of Sept. 16th it's a big flippin' mess. Not the DETAIL!! work I hired and paid heavy for. NOT AT ALL.

  Please get references before using this contractor. We did not get any references before choosing to work with this company. Without threatening litigation and filing a credit card dispute, we would have been out our deposit money after legally canceling the contract within terms. Be careful of whatever he tells you.
  We cancelled our original design. The owner promised to hold our check while we redesigned. He lied to us and cashed the check before we approved any redesign. At that point we had to pursue disputes and litigation to get our money back.

  Ask for a list of past customers you can contact for a reference. Howard Shafer will tell you anything you want to hear just to get you to sign a contract. Not to worry. His contracts are not legally binding.
