Reinforce structural integrity of a large back deck.
    $3,000

I’ve known Forrest Barber for several years. I’ve used him for advice on several design projects for clients. His advice was always”right on.” Usually, the advice saved them money and heartache. Recently after my husband passed away, I put my house on the market. There was a structural problem that needed to be disclosed to prospective buyers, with the promise to take care of the issue before closing. The house sold the first day with a closing in one month. I followed my own advice and called Forrest to give me a second bid. First contractor was three months out with all the structural engineers to schedule and county permits to get and upfront money for said engineers and permits. In the end, Forrest got everything done and signed off on before closing so the buyers could inspect it as well.

Pattern here. We had him complete our basement in 2008 and he would not finish the permit with the City of Castle Rock. Had to ask him several times and he did nothing. He then said since his Father passed away he could not find the files. The guy is phony and should not be in the business. Total liar.

    Basement remodel; Bathroom remodel
    $60,000

Forrest’s work is just good enough to look okay on the surface but falls apart quickly. We found electric boxes unattached or misaligned with the outlets, a basement wall that wasn’t attached to the floor, shoddy materials, bad plumbing, etc. Since Forrest’s work, we have paid another contractor to come back through, rip out most of Forrest’s work, and redo It. To do this shoddy work, he ran significantly over time. We would have been ahead of the game if we had just lit $60k on fire and then called the new contractor.

    basement remodel

Buyer beware of Forrest Associates Inc., a General Contracting business run by Forrest Barber in Castle Rock, CO. We hired him in December 2017 to finish our basement (estimated start January 15, estimated time 12 weeks), and are still dealing with all the headaches in October 2018. The crux of the problem was that towards the end of the job, some of the speakers, televisions and other theater electrical items were starting to be installed but not everything was working. The more my husband asked Forrest Barber, "why isn't this working", or "where is this wire"...the more contentious things became. The project was almost done, but after several missed appointments, I put a firm completion date and punch-lists in writing. During the last week of work, Forrest suddenly declared that the "low-voltage electrical" wasn't under the original contract's "electrical" clause, and he refused to get the installed speaker working or tell us where the bedroom and bathroom speaker wires were until he was paid in full. He now claimed that the "low-voltage" wiring was all "run for free" and not in the contract (we showed him the additional charges specifically for the speaker installation and HDMI upgrade charges). We refused to pay before completion, gave him that last day before the agreed upon deadline and then fired him on 6/23/18. The theater wiring and several other punch-list items, that he stopped working on, were all still not done (sliding doors didn't work, bunk ladder not finished, doorway transition done wrong, vanity left unstained, forgot to install electrical outlet in microwave cabinet, etc.). Long story made very short...we hired Magnolia Sound/Best Buy to locate and mark all the speaker wires, learned that NO television coaxial wires at all were run to the bedroom TV (despite putting a TV jack in the middle of the wall), the HDMI wires run to the theater were the standard and not the upgrade we were charged for, and the speaker we could never get to work had no wires connected (had to cut drywall to find wires). Best Buy also found that the two coaxial wires Forrest showed us in the component closet were actually the ends of the same piece of 5-foot coaxial wire that we allege he shoved into the wall to fool us into thinking he did install the coaxial wires. So after paying over $3,500 to other companies to complete the basement, we gave Forrest Associates Inc. a final check. He refused this check, hired an attorney to put a Mechanics Lien on our house, and demanded the full amount (final 20% of contract + additional charges). I called the Douglas County Inspector to ask how we could have a TV box on the wall that has nothing in it and the inspector, in checking his notes, realized that when he did our rough electrical inspection, there was no low-voltage (TV, speaker) wiring run yet. Then when the inspector came back for the final electrical inspection, Forrest said nothing about adding the low-voltage wiring after the rough inspection, so it was never inspected. Now we don't know if the theater and other low-voltage wiring are to code. The inspectors are working with us on this. (Update: On 9/28/18, the original Douglas County Inspector who did our rough and final electrical inspections and another Inspector came out with their cameras to look for the coaxial that Forrest told them was behind the drywall and determined that Best Buy was correct, there are no coaxial wires installed.) Finally, after several months of back and forth with Forrest's attorney (law firm in Denver; "more than 25 years experience in the construction industry"), we still refused to budge on paying what Forrest demanded. After all the evidence we collected, we wrote a check for an amount LESS than the refused final payment, and demanded and got a Lien Waiver (so they now can't file the Mechanics Lien)....all without us hiring an attorney....and we got his attorney to back down because we could prove all of our complaints. I hope Forrest's attorney fees were a huge, bitter pill. He would have saved a ton of money by just being decent to us, admitting he screwed up, and fixing the wires. PS. Forrest continues to threaten us with small claims court, has told subcontractors not to work with us on other projects, and subcontractors have claimed to not be paid.
