I manage 25 rental units from Richmond to Fairfield and my normal plumber moved to Ohio, so I needed a new plumber. Gary was enthusiastic about doing a good job because he knew I managed some properties and wanted future work. One of of the apartment buildings I manage had a back up in the toilet, sink and tub. I hired Gary to come out and fix it. He said he would charge me $80/hr. He arrived at 2:23 pm and finished and 3:37pm and charged me for 2 hours of work. I have phone logs and text message logs to confirm this. When I met him to pay him, he suggested that I get a new toilet wax ring put in because he didn't want to pay out of pocket for a new wax ring to replace it from the damage caused from snaking the toilet. I would have happily reimbursed him for a new wax ring, that only costs $6, if he told me about the issue when he was working on the toilet. So instead of pulling the toilet and snaking the line, he just snaked through the toilet and now I have to hire someone else to come in and replace the wax ring. All in all, I paid Gary $160 for what he claims is 2 hours of work, when it was only an hour and 16 minutes. He could have used the remaining time to call me and ask me if he can charge me $6 for a wax ring to replace it.
