George Fleming is a smooth talker & a master conman posed as a gentleman. When we first called him to look at the site, he said he used to do over $100M per year in the past for housing construction (Navy or military?) and also built a famous actress's estate and NASA center buildings.
We entrusted $100,000 into this guy. He hired a number of unskilled workers and every time I visited the site to check, those workers would just hang around doing nothing meaningful - sweeping, pounding nails into boards, moving thing around, etc. George pocketed most of it. The job was never completed (only 40% of the job was done) and George wanted another $40,000 to complete. I told him no, then he disappeared.
Meanwhile, I started to have a lot of his vendors calling & visiting me saying I owe them money for downpayment, materials or labor and I have explained to them that I paid George the money to do the job so they should get it from him, but they are still demanding payment. This is a nightmare. I kept calling George and he stopped returning my calls.Then one day, his telephone number went out of service.
Later, we found out that he does not have a contracting license. There are a number of complaints about George on the Internet. Check it out. He is at it again. You can take him to court or file a complaint with the Small Claims Court with no legal costs. Just go by yourself on the court date and tell the Judge your side of the story. Remember to bring all evidence - original contract, Invoices, your photos of unfinished work, photos of checks written to him and promised timelines (Ex; spreadsheets, etc.) to show the judge.
