Roof, bathroom x 2, electric, covered patio, stucco, etc

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Signed with GLK over 2 years ago. Jeremiah Klotz failed to apply for appropriate permits. Has failed inspection with county, and then abandoned the project after taking our money. He has been on ABC action news several times for doing the same to others and has multiple laws against him.

Rebuild of carport, new utility/mud/laundry room and screened in room
    $100,000

I definitely will NEVER recommend working with Jeremiah/GLK. To be fair, most of the trades used executed well enough, however GLK as a GC has a complete lack of project mgmt. skill, transparency & ultimately a lack of respect for their client.

Context - as Covid hit, my husband & I were building a modern, FEMA compliant, totally custom 2000 sq foot home steps from the NY beaches in LI. Now our summer home. I recommend that GC constantly. This is NOT bc the NY build went w/o any mistakes or delays or even finished on time. We had many issues come up over two years, but in construction projects delays & mistakes happen!

The best thing a GC can do is be transparent & communicate honestly to the client. Jeremiah Klotz did neither of those things.

Once the contract is signed, or unless a next milestone payment is close at hand/due or in our case - it’s the last 6 weeks of the job - he REGULARLY completely ignored emails, v/ms & txt msgs from us.

Bottom line, it was not until May, the 8th month since the permit was first issued, where we began hearing from him regularly.

Our job went on from the receipt of the permit to last payment/release of liens for EIGHT MONTHS & THREE WEEKS. A job, that even with delays (and there was one major one), should have been NO more than 4 months to complete.

GLK was contracted to demolish our existing carport, attached storage rooms& fully screened lanai. In its place was going to be a new carport, a utility room now connected to the house & a new screened in room which we entered through existing sliding doors.

This seemed to be more than the “new garage” constructions or kitchen renos they had done before (& job scopes mentioned in prior reviews). However, our job wasn’t big. It just involved every trade since the existing (outside) carport storage rooms contained our electrical panel, washer-dryer & water heater.

When we first engaged Jeremiah, he was responsive, returned calls quickly & generally was about speed & efficiency … from the contract bidding process right through submitting the permits. Then it ended.

Finally, he has not even ONCE step foot on our property to see the job site. I don’t know one other GC who NEVER meets a client in person much less never sets foot on their own job. He’s in St Pete. We’re in Brandon. It’s 1 hr away in traffic.

    - our permit was issued the week of 10/2022
    - electrical box obv had to be moved, but it took them over 2.5 weeks to tell us to call TECO to disconnect it.
    - Power was disconnected by TECO on 10/31/2022. From then to 01/172023 — the TOTAL # of days anyone worked on our job site was 7 days …7 DAYS IN TOTAL OVER 2 MONTHS.
    - On 01/17/23, when putting up the cinderblock walls, they discovered the architect had made a mistake in measuring the existing house & ask such the measurements for the roof trusses we incorrect. All work (framing) had to stop until that was corrected. It wasn’t minor 1/10th of an inch or another rounding amount— It was off by 6 inches!
    - Early on, we made the decision to have the trusses constructed on site. Clearly it was to our advantage as pre-fab trusses were backordered 9-12 months. Apparently in order to engineer them on site, you need to have engineered drawings done. The bid set is insufficient. Yet, Jeremiah as our GC, didn’t have the knowledge that these drawings had to be done & in fact, when the discovery was made and the architect asked for the truss drawings from him to make the adjustments, Jeremiah sent back the bid set made by this architect in the first place. Suddenly we were dropped off further communication. Drawings from scratch was > than 5 week delay. We don’t know what transpired btw January 17th to Feb 20th when we caught wind of the o/s’ing invoice, but we paid it the same day. That said, GLK didn’t restart work until March 27th - OVER TWO MONTHS LATER.
    - In Q4’22 and Q1 ‘23 we sent countless emails/txts that were completely ignored by Jeremiah, OR even any of his delegates.

They just never responded - the true GLK experience. Beware.
