  Horrible experience with problems still cropping up from his lousy workmanship! It hasn't been but a couple of years (as can be seen by my last review) ,that the roof I complained about has continued to leak and has rotted away the surround of the second story window that Gideon put in. The leak is also in the roof that Gideon said he fixed. It leaks so much that it all is rotted and the water comes into the house. We couldn't at first figure out where the water was coming from. When we went up on the roof we found that not only the roof was leaking but the window frame had been leaking for so long--since the HORRENDOUSLY INCOMPETENT Gideon put it in-- that the entire frame can be taken out in bits with your finger! NOT TRUSTWORTHY, NOT HONEST, NOT CAPABLE! Maybe he can put a shed up or remodel a kitchen but when it comes to major jobs he is murder to your nerves, your pocketbook, your peace of mind and your home. Heaven help you if you hire Gideon.

  You'll be sorry if you hire Gideon G. (GG) of Golden Construction!! This review is to save you from falling for whatever lies Gideon Golden tries to put over on you so he can get your job that will go entirely wrong even if you have experience and intend to be ever vigilant. His company is FAR From Golden Construction, it is Construction from Hell!. My project was estimated to be completed in 2 months. Approximately $80,000.00 and a year later it is still not finished because of all the problems taking more than 35+ pages to report, a leaky roof (that did NOT leak before) with an inspection that that was documented with photos in 18+ areas that needed to be fixed and 2 major areas that needed to be totally replaced, all of which would cost me $15,000.00 to fix because of Golden Construction's incompetence ! After signing a long contract which was in GG's favor by 95+%, later when I tried to get the VERY small part that was to "protect" me, GG did NOT comply. He refused to give me the invoices as stated in the contract; instead, lied about the prices (since I knew the cost after telling him where he could obtain what he "couldn't find"). And specifically, when I asked him to comply with : "The Owner has the right to receive from the Contractor the names and addresses of all persons or firms who supplied labor and/or materials to the project at the Contractor's order so that the Owner may personally solicit lien releases from said subcontractors and suppliers if he so desires." GG told me he would not give me that information. After I then said he should remove that from the contract (and his lawyer probably told him the same thing ) he gave me some names and numbers, no addresses or last names and when I tried to contact these people no one would cooperate. After 9 months of GG/Golden Construction refusing to do anything or discuss my complaints, through my own initiative, I contacted the permit department and found that not only was GG using people who were not licensed, he was using other companies to pull the permits for his unlicensed workers which I have been told in itself is illegal. No wonder they would not cooperate! Because I persevered with the roofer who pulled the permit for GGs roofer even though when I called the company that pulled the permit, the woman who answered the phone said Gideon's roofer did NOT work for them they just pull permits for him. I surmise due to the permit puller being found out, he made GG fix several things in the roof but GG did not fix the 2 major areas. (GG did not fix things because it was right for him to do so, no; only because he was pressured by the guy who pulled the permit-- otherwise he would have fixed it months before when he was notified!) Besides not fixing everything, lying, and only putting in 3 to 4 hour work days if they showed up at all, and many more problems, GG swore at me (with the explanation he thought would make it OK, said it was because I reminded him of his first X wife), hit me, tried to double charge, didn't order material when needed even though because of my history of working with construction projects I kept saying that was necessary to do so to be able to proceed in a timely manner with the project. GG asked for help with many aspects of the work because it made it easier for him. GG's guys needed help with how to put on a door handle and lock etc. He also asked me to remove several 4x8 sheets of plywood to help another of his workers. He didn't fix a roof leak and on paying a roof inspector (the roof wasn't leaking until GG "installed it incorrectly). I also had to contact permits to get GG to stop other things he was doing contrary to good practices. To which GG in a phone message ( I still have as proof), complained that I should NOT involve permits - "the less they know the better".
