There are two businesses associated with the owner Robert Torres, Jr. He is a home builder and owner of Great American Homes, LLC, and is an independent Real Estate Broker.
My poor rating is due to the following:
1. Mr. Torres, Jr. acting as Owner/Broker advertised a property for sale (Lot 63 Marina Villa East Slidell, LA) and did not readily disclose that, in truth, it was not for sale.
2. Later he informed my wife that he was building a spec house on that lot, under his company name "Great American Homes", thus the property was actually not for sale. He stated, however, that the spec house being built on this lot was for resale. We expressed interest and engaged in a dialog regarding purchase. Mr. Torres, Jr. sent detailed build plans, provided us pricing, and an estimated timeline for completion for this spec house. He also stated that some minor changes to our liking would not be a problem.
3. Several weeks later he informed my wife that, this house is not for resale to us. This was out of the blue, without notice. He did not state it was not for resale to anyone else, just not to us. We asked for an explanation, for which he never provided. He stopped answering emails and text messages. We could only conclude this must be discriminatory in nature. At no time up to this point had he ever disclosed the spec house was not for resale.
4. Because he failed to disclose up front that he had no intention of selling the lot and spec house being built upon it, we did not pursue other options regarding properties of interest. We bypassed many other buying opportunities which have now adversely affected us.
5. I wrote Mr. Torres, Jr. a letter asking for an apology for misleading us in this way and not being more forthcoming. Instead of taking responsibility, he inferred my wife as the cause of a ‘misunderstanding’. There was no misunderstanding. We have every text, every email, and every document he sent, which makes it very clear as to what transpired.
6. Lastly, in my letter to Mr. Torres, I stated that I’d dismiss the whole matter if he’d just provide a reason for misleading us and to apologize. Instead, he retaliated with a nasty letter threatening to sue me if I posted any comments online. Nothing I am posting is an opinion or false statement, and I have the documents, texts, and emails to back it up.
The purpose of this posting is to help others be aware, in the event they may consider doing business with Mr. Torres, Jr. as a Real Estate Broker or as a builder with Great American Homes, LLC. They can decide for themselves what they wish to do.
