e contracted Hanson Design and Build (Jeff Hanson) to build us a large covered exterior deck. After agreeing on a contract, Jeff Hanson stated to us he could finish in 4 weeks. It was clear to us in the beginning that 4 weeks was a pipe dream. Within a month of the job the problems started, poor subs, workmanship issues, sub showing up for the job etc. 3 month into it he fired his first set of subs and was bringing on a new crew to finish quickly. At this point he already had $17k of cost over runs he really couldn't explain. But rest assured that would be all of them and the job would finish quickly. 1 month later he had to rebuild a fireplace that was poorly installed, rebuild an entire roof and redo all the tongue and groove. Jeff Hanson assured as again this was at his own cost.
Toward the end of the project Jeff Hanson presented us with a bill almost 70% higher than the original contract ($50k more). He explained that the subs he brought in were expensive, and he couldnt control costs. He said it was our responsibility to pay for the re-works, and he wasnt paying for our deck.
In addition, during the re-work process, his crew damaged ALL of the composite decking they had put down. Thats not all, the deck, has a large bow in it due to the fact that the beams were not layed out evenly.
Jeff Hanson , his crew, and company walked off the job, leaving us an additional $30k in work to complete and re-work to fix his errors.
We are now in the process of suing Jeff Hanson and Hanson Build and Design for breach of contract, neglect, poor workmanship, and damages done to the residence.
