I am a big supporter of AC Hocek. This is the third time I have worked with Ali, and that should tell you a lot. This was a complicated project both from a Landmarks and preservation perspective, as well as from a technical point of view; as we were accommodating the creation of a full-height cellar, etc. As is always the case, there are unanticipated pre-existing conditions that have to be addressed along the way, and Ali does an excellent job navigating around these.
Beyond his expected architectural prowess, and attention to detail on the drawings and aesthetics, one of his greatest strengths is the organization, minute and note taking at the weekly site meeting, and general documentation and record-keeping. Not only does this ensure the contractors are held to task on the job, but these records and details can be absolutely invaluable for resolving disputes among the subs, etc.
His other great strength is acting as the mediator between the client (me) and the contractor, without compromising his role as my agent.
I cannot recommend Ali and his firm, AC Hocek Architecture, highly enough.
