Huda, LLC was contracted to complete exterior entry steps, ADA Bathroom, ADA Ramp, installation of a kitchenette, installation of 2 exterior stairs, closure of doors/windows and other issues on a historical building in Uptown New Orleans. He secured permits on only 60% of the work though he communicated he had permits for all of the work (See OneStop App for 7103 Burthe St). Specifically, the kitchenette (with electrical and plumbing) was not added to the permit and the permit for the exterior staircases was never issued. Upon manager review, Fire Marshall review, engineering review, and external inspectors, his work had several deficiencies and did not meet minimum code requirements, particularly for the staircases and the plumbing. His subcontractors do not have identifiable licenses per the LA Board of Contractors website. A report with the board has been filed and is pending review.
He seems to lack basic knowledge of fire code/electrical compliance with regards to placing water sources near electrical panels as well as electrical panel access of a 3-ft clearance. His staircases needed to be immediately removed because they were an eminent danger to the student residents and neighborhood. To date, we have spent in excess of $7,000 to repair the work and have an additional $10,000...just to start.
This all occurred slightly before and throughout the COVID shutdown. The volunteer manager/professor for this student center is a frontline worker. Huda, LLC continued to communicate that inspections and permits existed even though the City clearly indicated that they didn't. He was given 7 months to remedy the situation but instead chose to leave the country,
