Hired Islanders Trees and Landscape / dba Horizon Concrete for a basement walkout, patio, sidewalk project. Asa or Asaeli Ngauamo showed up extremely eager to take up the job and provided a low bid. I should've known better than to hire the cheapest contractor although they were referred by a friend. Asa assured me that we didn't need a permit although the city informed me that permit as well as engineering was required. Asa insisted that he knew what he was doing and had worked in South Jordan and knew the requirements. He proceeded to install forms without horizontal or vertical rebar, didnt request inspection and proceeded with a concrete pour although we asked him to get an inspection. He continued to request money from us although the work was not even half way complete. Eventually he requested an inspection and the city inspector filed the inspection as expected because there were no J bars installed, horizontal rebar was not sufficient and was not off the ground, rebar was not epoxied to the existing house foundation and no engineering drawings were obtained. After repeated attempts to contact the company they responded 21 days later and offered to refund a trivial amount and asked me to go elsewhere. I had to contract a different company and pay additional money to break up the wrong work Asa performed and lost money while Asa made $11,000 for wrong work. The engineers from Level Engineers who drew up the plans after I pressed Asa to get engineering drawings attested to the fact that Asa nor his crew knew anything about he work they signed up for. Asa left our home in a mess by digging up around the sides of the home as well as the back saying he was preparing for the sidewalk pour and patio pour which he never completed. He destroyed our sub grade, sprinkler system and entire front yard that had newly installed sod. Beware of Asa, his business manager and wife Darlene and crew because they will take your money and disappoint. Their MO is great communication upfront until they get a couple of payments and then bail on you. I would not recommend them to anyone.
Do not fall for their maintaining good communication. That is just until they get some money from you after which they will dump you and only send lengthy email responses but not honor their bid.
