We recently hired Antwann for a multi component project which included installing new floor tile, baseboards and repairing wall damages in our kitchen, putting up new doors throughout the house and installing a shower head/tub spout in our main bathroom. When we met for our quote, he was on time, knowledgeable, professional and reasonably priced. We even agreed on adding a bar window in our kitchen. We agreed to purchase all of the materials and he was able to start immediately which was great. He broke down his payment into three payment schedules which was flexible and convenient. Each time he showed up for work, he was on time, professional and cleaned up after himself. He even provided my husband with a shirt and face masks with his company logo. We were very impressed with that.
However, we began to notice early on the issues with his craftsmanship. When he installed the tile, he did not inform us that our floor was uneven and that there would be a gap in the grout lines. It was after we mentioned it that he advised our floor was not level. We were very confused as to why he wouldn't discuss this with us beforehand to remedy the floor before finishing. The baseboards applied didn't look much different than what we had originally except for one part where the two walls met. No caulk was applied for a smoother look. The molding cut to frame the bar window was not measured properly and didn't line up as it should. When we mentioned it, he said he made a mistake and would apply caulk to fix it. He sanded and painted the walls as if they were done but there were obvious issues that were overlooked. He was willing to fix the walls but after doing so the second time, it was obvious that he couldn't correct it like we hoped. He was able to move the thermostat below the bar window but how he repositioned it, it was not straight. The wall areas around where the thermostat had been was not smoothed properly at all. When he painted the kitchen, he got paint on the door frames and we noticed uneven coats in various sections of the wall and ceiling. He installed the shower head/tub spout with no issues but forgot to caulk around the tub spout. He was reminded about it but he left without completing it. He did a good job repairing the door molding for two of the doors upstairs. He was able to shave all of the doors throughout the house to ensure they closed properly but some were smooth and others very uneven. He was able to move the door latches down to fit the new doors but left holes where the old latches existed. There was no attempt to fill them in with wood filler at all. The ongoing, inconsistent quality of work was mind boggling and with too many issues to correct, we just wanted to be done with our contract. Looking back, we should have asked for more pictures of his work since his Facebook profile was limited and we didn't request references from previous jobs. Additionally, we should have pushed to keep correcting issues but we understood that a person cannot perform beyond their capabilities and vowed to never repeat this mistake.
Overall, we got what we paid for. Many issues that were caught and discussed with him seem to be quality issues. As a paid professional who should take pride in their work, these things should not have been done. If we didn't call it out, he wouldnt acknowledge the obvious issues and continued to work. From a distance, the kitchen is definitely improved from what it was before but its frustrating when you look closely and know that you paid someone to do this. We wouldn't work with Antwann again and wouldnt recommend him for a project with multiple components unless he is working with someone to hold him accountable to avoid careless mistakes.
