Working with KMack was not easy or stress free but the job did eventually get done. I saw a previous post about the owner Kevin's previous Cheif Concepts LLC business and the swindling charges that were brought against him and it made me VERY nervous, especially since I had already paid him the first half. However, I was direct with him about it and he was willing to talk about what happened with his previous partner and provide details on how he went through the proper process to get his license back. KMack was by far the best bid that we got price wise. Kevin was also very helpful in designing a plan and working with what we had in mind as far as budget and design of the deck. He found ways for us to save money and that is why we went with KMack in the end.
The biggest negative is that they are not very organized or good with communication. The project timeline got pushed multiple times without much notice or rational which made it frustrating and worrisome. However, the deck did eventually get done in a relatively reasonable amount of time (about 6 weeks from initial proposed start date) and the quality of work was good. Permits were pulled, lumber / materials were paid, and we now have a very nice deck. We did get a lein notice about unpaid lumber at one point, but Kevin was really responsive about it and provided the lein waiver and payment confirmation once it was finalized.
It's hard for me to fully recommend KMack because of the struggles we had and the overall lack of organization, but you cannot beat the pricing.
My advice is that if you do go with KMack, be very intentional about communication expectations up front and maybe even build it into the contract. Send him texts / emails, and call if things really need to be addressed.

DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY!!! The salesman (former owner of Chief Concepts LLC) called to bid our job. He told me he has worked in the nearby area and was familiar with it. Seemed like a nice guy and knew his stuff. I got the quote back and decided to go with him. He charged half of the money up front. Once I wrote the check, contacting him was difficult, so I looked into him and found that he had previously swindled customers through Chief Concepts LLC. I didn't want to ruffle any feathers so I played nice and was patient with him and he eventually came to do the work. Once it was finished, I paid the other half. Two weeks later, we get a letter in the mail stating that if the lumber bill was not paid there would be a mechanics lien put on our house. Kevin said the bill was not due yet and he would pay it on the due date. Fast forward 1 1/2 months and a second notice came. Kevin said again that he would pay it by the end of the week. To my surprise, he paid it. But I would never recommend this guy to anybody. If you look up his record, he still owes other clients thousands of dollars. I don't know how he is linked to the actual owner who lives in Iowa but I would not trust either of them. Sketchy, sketchy, sketchy.

Kevin still owes us thousands of dollars from a remodeling job. He's a good talker with alot of reasonable sounding excuses, but there are reasons he owes multiple clients thousands of dollars. 'Just look him up in the Hennepin County Court records. He's a pure con man through and through.
