The home is beautiful and Kevin seemed fair to work with however, if you decide to use this builder demand that your Superintendent is NOT Brian. He does not communicate at all, can’t schedule the subs accurately or timely and doesn’t care at all about you. Actually said that he doesn’t because the houses sell themselves. We have been in the house 2 months and still don’t have a yard or stairs on the deck. Took him 6 weeks to even get a concrete porch. If we want to know anything we have to ask the subs who are working on other houses.

I have a hard time believing any of these other reviews. My experience has been top notch. Kevin is very detailed oriented and had several subs redo their work because it was not up to par. I have had no issues with my whole home remodel and would not hesitate to hire them again.

Everything that Kevin did on my house is WRONG! He was very SLOW getting my house done. He was probably about 2 mos behind schedule of when the house was supposed to be done. This was costing a fortune in storage! I never wanted to sign his contract… it was a very long document with a lot of gotchas. On our specs sheet it only had prices for sq foot on carpeting and tile work. I’m concerned that when we used Kenny’s we didn’t actually get the value of what was on the specs and what we really got. Our tiles were very plain and the carpeting got frays very quickly, we developed traffic patterns and the carpet started coming loose along the tack strips. One of his sub contractors tried to double charge us for thousands of dollars! The quality of the work that was done on my house was VERY POOR! We have warped walls where doors don’t really fit in right, it looks like they just shoved tubs in and are bowed in the middle. They caulked the crap out of everything to hide that things were not fitting right. They even caulked along the walls to the ceiling. The lighting in our house was very DIM! Dim lighting was intentionally used to cover up mistakes. Some kind of additive was added to the paint to make it go further. Stone work is changing color and little pieces are breaking off, didn’t completely grout correcty and there are holes in the grout. There are so many things wrong with my house I can’t list them all!

Higdon Construction built our home almost two years ago and gave us standard 30-day, 10-month and 1-year warranty reviews. The house frame is solid and keeps us warm in the cold, windy winter months. However, there are flaws that we've brought to their attention. . .master bath toilet room is not square, master closet ceiling was not finished to our satisfaction (dipping corner, which I pointed out in our walk-through), we've had five floor to ceiling windows replaced and about 3 dozen other items which were taken care of over time - but only after multiple requests by phone, email and text. We had a faint gas smell occasionally in the kitchen from the beginning. Pointed it out but was told it will bleed off and the smell will go away. As it became more prominent in year two, we had an HVAC company take a look. Their assessment - the original gas line installation in the kitchen was never completed by the sub-contractor. Took pictures showing the gas bubbles and sent to the Quality Manager and our original Project Manager - no response. The upstairs laundry dryer vent installed was an oblong oval - something no dryer vent supplier (retail or commercial) in the KC area could help me out with. Even the plumbing company (Prairie Center) who did the installation, blew me off. Finally found an adapter at Home Depot, after talking with 5 plumbing suppliers and plumbers, took a couple of hours with lots of frustration (because the vent adapter doesn't fit the wall vent so well), to get that set up so the dryer would vent properly. Told them from the outset that we didn't appreciate the stained concrete they left at our front door (stoop and walkway). Nope, can't fix that. So now I'm going to have to pay several hundred dollars to epoxy the concrete and make our entry way look nice. Landscaper installed sod on 3/4 of the property, without properly grading the topsoil and left a gaping hole in the middle of the front yard. Months later, and after repeated requests, the Project Manager finally came out with bags of topsoil, cut away the sod sitting over the hole and filled it in. Now, a year later, it is finally growing in consistently with the surrounding sod. On building completion, they left several instances of rebar sticking out of the wall, both on the inside near my water main, and on the outside in plain view on the patio. I had to request, again multiple times, for them to cut that rebar back to be flush with the wall. This is our second home to build and we have lived in seven homes throughout our lifetime, dealing with 3 builders in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and now Missouri. This builder is without a doubt the worst we've encountered. Prices are too high. Customer service is limited. Never saw the builder again after we gave him our deposit. He didn't even show up to the closing. Now I see in my two year-old home, some roof shingles are lifting up in the front as well as the rear of the house. We have all wood floors and the floor in our pantry is warped - like it wasn't fully cured when they installed it. We mentioned it multiple times, sent pictures, no reply. This builders' reputation in my neighborhood is bad at best. He's raised the ire of our HOA because of his actions. His subs - they fired the first landscaper and first sprinkler guy due to non-performance, fired the window cleaners for leaving our windows with streaky scratches and the plumber and electrician left us with problems to fix on our own dime. Funny short story - appliance sub called six weeks before closing to inform us that their warehouse burned down a month before and they wouldn't be able to provide a special order farmers sink for our kitchen - for six months. Because they refused to try to help us on their original commitment ("go find something") my wife started making phone calls and found the exact sink at a Home Depot in Georgia, paid for express shipping and got it here to be installed a week before the occupancy permit was issued. No thanks to our builder or his sub. If I chose to build again, I definitely would not sign up with Higdon.

DISHONEST! Did I mention he is dishonest! Poor communication, estimated the work I wanted done the built what he wanted to build but said it cost more. Read the fine print before signing anything as he has some sneaky stuff in a contract. Lacks integrity, has no idea how to talk to people....like talking to a person with a 5th grade education. Talks out of both sides of his mouth. I can't believe any realtor would work with this bum. One star because it wont let me go zero.

Cutting corners Kevin. That’s all I need to type. He didn’t consider anything when building this house. Work is shoddy and maintenance is such an inconvenience for us because of the corners he cut, or should I say the people he threw money at to do the work. If you’re going to do something it should be your best. People fixing problems with the house are stunned. There’s a hole still in the back of the house from where his people decided on a last minute decision to do something else. Doorframes are crooked. There’s a dip in my floor in my master. What in the world!? That’s not everything.

Awful!!!!! Cheap quality! Awful subs. It is very hard to get in contact with builder. Do not buy from Kevin Higdon! What warranty has been done is very poor work, looks terrible. We can not wait to get out of this house!! Listen to the reviews, wish we would have!!!!

I want to back up everything the other review states plus add more about this builder. Buyer beware this builder does not hold his subs to any kind of standards and then stands up for them and the "shoddy" work instead of helping the home owner get what they paid for. Keep all records and emails because he will try to over-charge the upgrade amount, it was to the tune of over 10K in our case. After a battle and proof from emails and his suppliers, most of his overcharges were removed. We have patched holes all over our walls where outlets, doorbell chime, window and doors were installed in wrong areas. The mud crew cakes on drywall mud to cover bad sheetrock skills and never gets them sanded smooth. My 12 year old house was in much better condition than this new home. He finished wood floors way too early and didn't cover them - but to be honest they were so bad (installed by Kenney's Tile) that it didn't matter. Huge gaps broken areas and splits peeling up. The fix was to dremel and fill with wood putty that shrinks way down and doesn't hold stain. Tubs were not protected and there are large chips and gouges - not repaired. His line is "that is how it is done". He tried to use sheetrock mud to set the jacuzzi tub and after 2 weeks it was still wet under the outter skin and never set up. Huge fight to get it done right with mortar and I had to set the showers even though he was voiding the manufacturer's warranty the way he had them installed. This builder will not build to the quality of his spec model homes. Cheap materials and hack subs. After he missed 2 closing dates we finally closed on the house unfinished just to get in. Original closing date was 10-30-14 and we closed 1-16-15 which is 2-1/2 months late. This guy should not be building in Missouri and I know why he is not building in Oklahoma any longer. Check out pictures and there is way more hack work that was done.

I just want to back up what the other review says about this builder. Horrible builder that does not hold his subs to any kind of standards. He sticks up for the "shoddy" work of the subs and not the home owner. Our original closing date was 10-30-14 and after him missing 2 closing dates we finally went forward with closing on 1-16-15 with a lot of things left to finish and fix on the house. He tried to over charge on every upgrade so keep emails and records or you will be charged twice as much as he tells you. My 12 year old house was in much better condition than this new home he threw together in a half assed manor. Buyer beware is all I can say.

Very nice until closing documents signed. My home looks nice cosmetically. Warranty work still not completed after 3 years. What warranty work has been completed has been very difficult to get finished. I have had issues with sinking deck, leaking roof, 2 fireplaces, outside water faucets, whirlpool tub, windows, retaining wall. I've had to pay for some warranty work out of pocket after builder refused to pay for repair. I have extensive paperwork, including City involvement of a Stop Work Order on other active properties until Codes have been met with my home. Had I talked with other homeowners in the subdivision beforehand, who also has issues with their homes, I would not have purchased my home and saved myself a lot of grief. Builder is dishonest, uses cheap supplies.

We love our new construction home and loved working with Kevin and Doug. Super easy to figure things out and talk to. There was some delays and backordered items but that’s not the builders fault, just how things are now. The house is very well built and things that weren’t perfect were quickly fixed.
I definitely recommend kevin higdon construction!
