I am a landscape expert with more than 20 years experience. I installed a scape that is highly natural, drought-resistant, and colorful in Menlo Park. Unfortunately, this scape fell under the auspices of L. Nelson Properties. Recently I received a chilly email from these guys saying they were just about to rip out a bunch of my plants -- plants that I had nurtured extensively at my own expense to achieve higher beauty. I replied that it is common business practice/common courtesy to consult with the guy who does the work before making radical and potentially destructive changes. I said that I have the expertise to make such destruction unnecessary. Their response: they fired me.
I had coddled that property for more than 10 years, often investing my own time at no charge. My advice: Don't let Nelson get their hands on yours!
