I used him in 1997 and had to redo the entire job. From the walls being bowed to tile installation. He violated the city codes. The job was horrible. I won the case, got my money back but that doesn't make it alright.

This contracting firm was hired to do a complete remodel of my current home, including electrical, plumbing, floor plan change, upgrade the foundation, and outside yard clean up. However, some of this work is the sloppiest work I've seen in my entire life, particularly toward the end, and especially in regard to the plumbing choices. Even though they ran piping for gas all the way to the back of the garage, for some reason they installed an electric water heater. My plumber friend says this is because electric water heaters are cheaper. Even though it was clear that laundry area was planned to be next to the water heater, the entry point for the water to the house is 4' above the floor, making it impossible to install laundry appliances in the back without a sump pump. A hole in the concrete floor had been cut for a sump pump, however, they mysteriously filled it in, making it extremely difficult to opt into their plan. The back room is the worst. It looks like they almost literally ran through the area slapping on joint compound and tape on the drywall joins, never sanded or smoothed it, or bothered to take care of wrinkles in the tape. Several of my neighbors are contractors (one electrical, one plumbing, one general, one carpenter) and I've become friends with them. Without exception, the term they use for the job that this contractor did is "Mickey Mouse." Last but not least, they removed a back stair to install a half bath. However they did not replace the stair, leaving the home with a single exit from the top floor. This is unbelievably unsafe particularly in case of a fire. I am told that this is illegal and should never have passed inspection for a sale, but it did somehow. Contractor claimed the planning department told them they could not put a stair in a different location because of setback issues, however they offered to do it for me unpermitted after the sale. I turned down this offer. Later I found out from a conscientious and ethical architect and contractor that this clearance issue was not remotely true. So at least I have stairs now.
In sum this firm took a lot of short cuts and in some cases they did things that didn't make any sense at all. Further they would not take responsibility for problems after the job was over and access to them was tightly controlled by the selling agent. They would not tell me who it was except his first name and a cell phone. Of course, this is a matter of public record which I did not know at the time. I found out but too late.
