Hired Lux Landscape Design 1 year ago to build an outdoor room, fire pit, and BBQ Island. Unfortunately, the experience working with the owner Dominic Ramirez has been horrible. As others have stated, Mr. Ramirez seems incapable of running a construction business as he chooses not to communicate with his staff, his sub contractors and his clients. Mr. Ramirez would not return a phone call or text for the first 90 days of our project. Multiple errors were committed including constructing our covered structure within the side yard setback! Then rather than correct his error,he chose to cut it down by 2', stating he would return after final inspection to raise it to meet the contract specifications. However, he never returned, ultimately ABANDONDED out project and will not discuss or remedy his multiple errors and mistakes.
This project has taken Lux a full year to NOT COMPLETE. Mr. Ramirez stated it was a 3-4 month project, project however he subbed out the entire job to TWO guys. After 6 month's these two guys quit (coming to our door over Thanksgiving asking if we could persuade Dominic to pay them as they were owed $7,000.00!)
Aside from building our covered outdoor room inside city code set backs, violating Encinitas Code, Dominic's roof leaks water down on the door opening, the TV cutout is too small for tv (yes he had the exact measurements!), built our BBQ Island from the wrong material than stated on contract, plus made it 12" too large. Half of the concrete received the correct scoring the other half did not, plus Lux demo'd a retaining wall that was not listed on the demo plans! The number of errors on our project is astounding.
Be leery Lux business practices as well. Mr. Ramirez continually requests payments be made outside of the contracted payment plan, insists on payments running ahead of work completed and refuses to provide the property owner with sub contractor lien releases (again a violation of California License Law).
Additionally, you must get multiple bids if you choose to work with Mr. Ramirez as he originally quoted us $16,000.00 to build 12'*8' wood patio. I present him with other quotes $10,000.00 less and he immediately lowered his bid to match. This same scenario happened on our pool resurface and pre construction demo.
Hired Dom about a little over a year ago to design my backyard and execute the plan. The design was for a pool, spa, fire pit, bar/BBQ and patio. He estimated 2 and a half months. Due to some heavy rains that happened just as the pool was being dug, it ended up taking almost 3 months. Had to wait for some of the mud to dry out. Had it not been for the heavy rains, it would have been complete right on time.
Along the way we asked for additional items to be done/built. He told us how much the new item was going to cost before starting on it. Once approved, he took care of it.
His staff was very professional and nice to my entire family. I would happily use Dom and Lux Landscape again for my next project!
