  We hired John off a recommendation to re-do our master bathroom, guest bathroom and put up a wall to make a bedroom in our third floor. Working with John during the renovation was great! He's so friendly, personable and easy to work with. Within months of the job being done we noticed water in our first floor hallway and figured out the master bathroom shower was leaking. For a year, I called and texted John, begging at times for John to please come see what the issue is. Long story short, after not hearing back, him not showing up when we would hear back and then ultimately not fixing anything, we had to hire a new contractor to fix the jobs that he just did. Once the new contractor started working on the showers, both jobs were done so poorly he said "he had never seen a job like this". Nothing was sealed in the shower, electrical was hanging behind, none of the plumbing was secured down. We've had to completely rip out everything and pay for it all over again. I really enjoyed working with John and did not want to leave him a bad review. We were genuinely shocked at how awful our job turned out.

  kitchen remodel

  We are very pleased with our new kitchen that John did for us. He communicated well from the beginning. We described what we were looking for, and he explained what he could and possibly could not do. He had solid suggestions about where we should buy material. We made an agreement from the beginning that we would buy all materials needed, and his crew would install once everything was delivered so they could work quickly, and that is exactly what they did. I knew what days to expect them, and they always showed. John had a great attitude about problem solving as little details changed during the project, and we did not pay a penny more than the original proposal. He and his crew are very easy to get along with and wanted us to be happy with our new space, and we are absolutely happy :)

  Kitchen

  We had issues with our 1st contractor and John was recommended to us. Project started off well with him. This was a complete gut on a kitchen. He used his brother in law and son to complete the job who were inexperienced. Our floor was not installed properly and now has gaps in it and is coming apart. Trim was not cut properly for baseboards and has spaces. The paint job on the walls has drip mark and the walls were not smoothed so the painting looks to have streaks. For the cabinets in the kitchen, the damaged many of them with unnecessary drill holes along with misdrilled areas on the cabinet hardware. The trim on the bottom of the cabinets was never put on and there are places on the cabinets where they were never tacked down. We have pencil marks on the walls, putty left on the trim. We attempted many many times to get John to fix the floors with each time him telling us that he would be out to fix and he blew us off each time. He did have his brother in law show up 1 time and his he used a filler he bought at a cell phone store to try to hide the gaps which uis essentially a bandaid and made the floor slippery. Each time we were given a date and he never showed up. When they installed our cabinets they left our garage a mess with boxes piled high, no cleanup. Light above our sink is showing gaps and is not flush with the ceiling. We were very patient and fair with John and just wanted him to fix what they had installed incorrectly but he has continually lied to us. We are speaking to our lawyer and filing suit against him and his wife as she is listed as the owner. He is more a handyman not a contractor. Do not use him as you will be disappointed. I did not want to leave a negative review but he has left us with no other options and took advantage of our situation

  basement finishing

  John did a wonderful job finishing our basement. The work was top notch, done ahead of schedule, with no "surprises" in the cost. I have recommended Masterful Surroundings to several of my friends.
