Mike was friendly and professional in our first discussions with him about the renovations we planned on our house. He made a lot of wonderful promises and was able to work for a very low rate. We agreed to choose him for our contractor. But as soon as he got the money the problems began. He had hired a man who was mentally challenged and would come to work with instructions about what to work on that day. Mike did not come over to work most days. The gentleman he had hired was very nice, but didn't know how to accomplish most tasks according to code. He also had no ride home and did not bring his lunch, so we fed him and drove him home most days. Mike ran out of the initial deposit made to order materials, and came back asking for more. Then, he disappeared for a couple weeks, When we finally got in touch with him, he said he had been in the hospital, which we found out was a lie. We had to get the bank involved to force Mike to come back and finish the job before they would finish paying him. He said he would have to finish another job first to have the funds to finish our house! What had happened to the money he received for our house? Finally, he found time to come back and finish our job. It does look very nice, and seems to all be finished correctly, but time will tell. I would not hire Mike again simply because of all the headache it created trying to get the work done, and because of his somewhat shady business practices, like hiring uninsured and unqualified workers that were not supervised. If you decide to hire him, just buy the materials yourself and have them waiting at your house, and pay Mike and his staff by the hour or the week to keep them coming back. That way, you will not be out anything and can just hire another contractor if he decides not to show up.
