Horrible experience.
My realtor set up an appointment with Mike on Monday for him to come to my house Friday to give me an estimate on a roof leak. After not hearing from him all week, I called Thursday to verify the appointment and he said he would be there. My wife was supposed to go into work Friday but was able to get the day off so she could be there for the estimate. I called Mike at 3:00 PM on Friday and he told me he had forgotten all about the appointment that he had confirmed the day before, and was down the hill running an errand and wouldn't be able to come out that day. He told me he could come out the following day, Saturday.
He shows up and introduces himself to my wife as "the roofer". Does not introduce himself by name, nor does he give a business card. He goes up onto my roof and 5 minutes later tells me what needs to be done. Said the price was $400.00, which sounded fair. I just moved into this house and I wanted it fixed by a professional, so I had no problem with this amount. He told me he was booked for the next week to a week-and-a-half. I told him to call me and let me know his schedule so that we could set up an appointment for the work to be done. He told me I wouldn't need to be there when the work was being done, which I was OK with, since both me and my wife usually work during the day. He left right after that.
The next day, my father-in-law, who is also a licensed contractor, came over and inspected the roof. He said the repairs could be done in less than an hour, and recommended that I go get a can of Henry's roof sealant at Lowes, which I did. The next day we sealed all the cracks in the roof where the water was getting in. Total cost was about $17, and 30 minutes of our time. I was supposed to call Mike and tell him I fixed it, but since he said he was going to be booked for the next week to a week-and-a-half, I put it off until the following day, since I was having a party that evening and had things to take care of.
The better part of the next two days was spent trying to find someone to repair another problem I had on the house that was a lot more pressing than the roof issue. I called Mike on Wednesday and told him that the work had already been done on the house, and I no longer needed his services. His reply was "too bad, I already did the work on your house". Without calling me to inform me that he had an opening in his schedule, and without an actual agreement in place for him to come out and do the work, he (or his worker) showed up on my property, went onto my roof, and did the work anyway. I had never given him the go ahead on the work. He produced no contract, no written estimate, no invoice, nothing at all for me to review and sign. He did not even have an oral contract, since I only said his price was fair, and that it was OK that he was booked out a week to a week-and-a-half. I told him to call me and set up an appointment. I never authorized him to come whenever he felt like it and do the work. Furthermore, his worker should have stopped immediately once he got on top of the roof, because he had to see all of the work that had been done the previous weekend. It would have been obvious that someone else beat him to the job, yet he did additional work, anyway. I asked Mike to explain himself and he started raising his voice, saying that I authorized him to do the job, which wasn't true. I hung up, since I didn't want to get into an argument over the phone while I was driving.
When I got home, I pre-emptively filed a police report just in case Mike or his workers decided to retaliate, since I would not be paying them for work I never agreed to. I also called Mike to leave a message explaining to him why I would not be paying him the $400 he quoted.
The next morning, my father-in-law came back to the house to inspect the work that had been done. It looks like a good repair, but we won't know for sure until the next rain storm. The worker matched up the shingles with my existing color pattern, and re-reshingled the exposed areas that we sealed up using Henrys. The aesthetic appearance looks a lot better. I wanted to do the right thing and reimburse Mike for the material and labor costs he incurred with this repair, but when I called him he told me "send me $400 dollars or send me nothing", and then he hung up. I would have paid up to $200.00. I acknowledge that this is partially my fault, and I should have called him sooner, but when he told me he wasn't going to come out for at least a week, I didn't think he would just show up after 2 business days. He should have called me, I could have told him "no" at that point.
If you do business with Mike, DEMAND A CONTRACT. Don't let him do ANY work until you sign a contract detailing the price and when the work will be done. I didn't know any licensed contractor does business like this, but I will be a lot more wary of contractors in the future.

Mike Walker charged me TEN Thousand dollars for a new roof on a 17oo square foot house. I have done nothing but repair the roof from the start. When I called Mike walker he threatened me and never made any repairs. This man used all latino workers who claimed that they did not speak english. There was a solar water heater on the roof which he removed, but refused to reinstall. Mike walker added a $300 charge for a half sheet of plywood to repair the patio roof. This man is a parasite and I would not let him repair the roof on my dog house.

Mike Walker installed a new roof on my 1984 home in April, after part of my old roof blew off from high winds. He gave me a great quote, showed up on time, every time, his crew was excellent, and he explained the whole process and what to expect. I did not experience anything less than professional. I'd absolutely recommend this company for roofing replacement!
