I've had a very negative encounter with Hector, one that is still ongoing. Hector is a dishonest man and I do not recommend you hire him. He was part of a crew that came to build a deck for me this month, hired by another construction company, not his own. Toward the end of the job, he began to hassle me to stop working with the company I had already hired and have him finish my project, including some additional things I'd wanted. He wanted to "take care of me". He was insistent that I not tell the other owner, an indication that he knew it was wrong. I was worn down & stupid & initially agreed to have him finish it. My mistake was paying him some money to do it (for supplies he said). However, I began getting mixed vibes from Hector, my original contractor would do the additional work for the same price, and so I changed my mind. Hector became very upset and then I knew I'd made the right decision to not continue with him. Initially and at various times he agreed to return my money, minus what he would have to pay as taxes and a very generous gas allowance. But then began all the excuses: first, he had to go to California for an emergency, next he would pay me Wed., then it was Sat., and so on. He asked for my bank account info so he could "send my money" that way. Then a friend would bring a check over for me, and it continues today. I tried to let Hector know that I wouldn't give up so easily in my attempts to get my money back but he began with insults. My advice is to keep looking for another contractor.
**Hector recently paid me back the amount we agreed on. He no longer owes me any money.
