By Herb T.June 16, 2021Bought home from them$295,000Read more
On May 10, 2019, we bought a 1979 mobile home from Nylund Homes Inc. The home was advertised as recently remodeled. It is located in Silverlake, WA. zip 98645. The contractor on this project was Nylund Inc., which, as we understand it, is also owned by Rodney Nylund.
We paid good money for this home. It has lake access and it was to be our retirement home.
The following is a summarized version of our story. Our first clue we had of any problems was the day we got the keys, May 10th 2019. We used the master bath toilet and it tilted 20 to 30 degrees to the left. I figured it was an easy fix since the remodel included new flooring and toilets . We hired a contractor to come and fix the problem with the toilet. He went to straighten up the toilet and it came right out of floor! The only thing holding the toilet up was the water connection line. The new flooring was soaked wall to wall. Turns out, when replacing the bathroom floor, Nylund didn't see to it that the old rotted floor was removed, it was just covered up with new particle board and vinyl.
We had L&I come out to inspect the whole house. They found the newly installed sheeting and three tab on the roof ready to fall through in many spots, the work crew had spliced in stabilizer 2x4s to shore up the rotten rafters. L&I said that to be done right, the house would need to be decapitated and roof rebuilt from scratch. The house is not safe to live in as is. These are just some of the details, the entirety of the situation would take too much time to relate here.
It appears that the much of the remodel was to cover up the rot and growing mold. Note: per L & I, no permits were pulled for any of the work done in this "remodel". We have proof of every thing I have said.
The reason I am speaking up now, 2 years later is that we have tried the normal methods of getting satisfaction from Mr. Nylund. We have sent a letter through our lawyer and we have filed a lawsuit in Cowlitz Superior Court which is currently active (Case #20-2-00242-08). The case was understandably delayed due to COVID issues, but now that things are starting to move along, they are pulling stalling tactics to delay even further. We decided to take our case to "The court of Public Opinion" to at least get the warning out to other folks to be wary when dealing with these people. I feel badly to have waited so long to speak out. Our realty agent and home inspector promoted them as a reputable company.
Sincerely,
Herb Thomas

I have similar complaints to the homeowner who previously commented. I bought my first home and it had been “flipped” by Nylund Inc. The home appears sound enough on the surface, but as soon as we started living there and making necessary repairs (replace water heater, new plumbing) the hidden issues started to come out of the woodwork: permits that were not disclosed (or closed), large mold growth that was covered by new cabinets (mold was extensive enough to completely eat through the drywall), new room addition with plumbing that had no crawl space access (just covered up by the flooring that needed to be torn out to access); no sealing around just about ANY of the exterior or windows which has allowed water leaks and termites; electrical issues…I could go on. And I shudder to think about what else was hidden behind walls, flooring, and paint. It’s honestly heartbreaking. In 10 days (yes TEN) of living here, we have already spent close to $25,000 on necessary repairs and we still have more to go to get this home into a safe and sound condition. This contractors greed will come back around to him. But for now, it’s just impacting my young (early 30’s) family’s ability to achieve safety and stability that we thought we were moving towards in achieving the goal of buying our first home.
