Nicholas seemed like a nice guy at first. We had used him before for yard clean-up and were happy with the results. However, things took a turn for the worse when he expanded into outdoor masonry.
First, he initially quoted us $600 for the work in writing, but later realized it would take longer and demanded $1200 instead. We agreed, being understanding customers.
Then, upon inspection, it was clear that the work wasn't done properly. There was a large gap in one of the walls that they had mis-measured, and Nicholas said he would fix it, but only if we paid him substantially more money.
To make matters worse, the area where the repairs were done had a bed of ground ivy nearby, and after it rained, we were shocked to find that the ivy was covered in a solid sheet of concrete. We had to hire someone else to carefully remove it as Nicholas stopped responding to our messages.
And if that wasn't enough, when we hired Nicholas to clear our patio, deck, and walkways before hosting a neighbor's wedding, which he was also serving as a contractor for, he demanded several hundred more dollars just two days before the event, threatening to back out if we didn't comply.
In summary, while Nicholas may be a nice guy, his ability to price work, the quality of his masonry work (including clean-up), and his ethical willingness to deliver on written agreements is simply awful.
