This review comes about 6 months later than it should, because the problems with Ohara Builds continue to multiply. I have never dealt with a company that has less professionalism nor actual expertise in construction and building. Withe very fiber of your being you should avoid O’hara builds at all costs. You would be better hiring your cousin’s nephew’s, father’s former roommate than any individual at O’hara Builds.
To be entirely fair our project manager instructed us not to interact with the staff at O’hara during our ADU construction. However, we still lived on site and as responsible property owners we checked in with everyone, every day (assuming O’hara was there on that day… or even once a week… or once a month? Sometimes not for months at all). But as delays began to mount up, we sought out Sean O’hara, the lead contractor that was OCCASIONALLY on site when we found our difficult project management team to get a hold of. On one of these occasions Sean bragged that he puts his newest most inexperienced staff on residential projects to get the experience before placing them on larger commercial accounts. This isn’t a big concern as long as there is steady supervision, RIGHT? There was no supervision, the inexperienced staff built our entire ADU, and as such, the home continues to have problems 6 months later.
Often times we would go weeks without seeing a single contractor on site. Which was especially frustrating because every morning we’d move our horses into a smaller pasture, where they were not pleased, only to find out nobody showed up.
Let’s talk about Sean for a second, this man is the definition of a con man. He will sweet talk you about the project and make you feel at ease, despite the fact that he has the least experienced staff working the project. Do not believe his lies, they will cut every corner possible. One such event we were told that the toilet we had picked out was “not available in California” (actually they said this about literally every fixture we picked out) I laughed out loud on the phone when I heard this because we had picked out a Niagara Stealth, which is LITERALLY the most efficient toilet on the market and recommended by the California Department of Water Resources in a state that, you know, is drought ridden. The truth? Sean and his cronies wanted to install their toilets that they had bought in bulk to save money. They’ll tell you this “not available in California” lie up and down because they know that they work in traditionally conservative regions that tend to get frustrated about California restrictions. Make no mistake, they are lying through their teeth.
Now, it might be unfair to put all the blame on Sean, after all, we were told by our project management company to go through them, not O’Hara, for communication. But when communication broke down and our project manager switched three times, of course we sought out Sean on site (assuming any sort of supervisor was on site). So sure, our project management company wasn’t much better.
But O’Hara continued to show they are the worst company to have ever held a business license. In the home that was being built for two people with an infant, their workers smoked inside the home when cabinets were being installed. We didn’t want them smoking on the property at all, but hey if they were outside they could give themselves lung cancer if they wanted. Inside the home though? AFTER DRY WALL WAS INSTALLED?
Let’s move on to the floors, because these goons dragged their feet out putting in electrical lines, the floors weren’t acclimated to any sort of climate like they are supposed to be. They are now coming apart. Guess we need to replace the floors in a 6 month old home.
The water heater they installed was moved incorrectly and threw errors the moment the home got power. We’ve had to replace the water heater in the first month of living there.
The next biggest cardinal sin is the HVAC. They didn’t bother to hook it up all the way so when we finally did get power (long after O’Hara was rightfully fired) the HVAC had no power and just had different tubes loose. But that’s not all, they didn’t leave the remotes that are used as thermostats for these units. They probably sold them to make up the precious cost of their stupid toilet. We had to buy the remotes ourselves. This was in winter and we had no heat until another contractor finished the job. Now we are in the summer and we found moisture causing mold in our utility closet. The idiots didn’t insulate the HVAC lines. Thankfully our project manager is covering this under warranty.
We have a 6 month old home falling apart at the seams because Sean and his O’Hara losers can’t actually build a home to save their lives. And after all of that guess what these monsters had the gall to do? They put a lien on our home after they were fired. You don’t deserve a cent O’Hara. You are thieves and con men and your company deserves to die in bankruptcy.
