I am a painting contractor which was burned very skillfully by Phillip Baird. He approached back in May, 2012 for a painting estimate for one of his clients. We met for a job walk and spoke widely about the scope of work and details on the job. Then I gave him a written estimate (9 pages) including every single detail on the job - level of preparation, material specification, safety data, duration of the project, etc. It took him months to get back to me after a few follow ups. Eventually, the job started and from the the beginning he was unhappy about how I was doing my work, even though it was in accordance with the contract. He harassed my workers, he discriminated them and abused the contract. We agreed to a level of preparation, which was explained to him at the time of the estimate, it was specified on the contract, but he always asked for more outside of the scope. He made us repaint areas that were already painted properly in compliance with the contract. We were very polite and careful with the owners and on the few occasions we did interact with them they were very happy with the work and appreciated the careful work around their plants. I did a little extra work on the front entryway, since I always like to add some extra value. The clients appreciated that very much. Phillip just ignored it and said nothing. During the project being, I never got a call from him. The job was completed and signed off. It took more than 2 months to get paid with the excuse that it was a hard client. There was additional work done for which I was not paid. Then, I call to follow up with him and he starts cursing and screaming in very unpleasant manner that it was a very poor service. I tried to calm him down and see where the frustration comes from, but he continued to address relatives and make discriminating comments about my workers origin. He could not clearly say where the problem was. I tried to find out why he waited so long to express his frustration, and why he did not bring it to my attention when it was still fixable, but he continued to curse. I find Phillip as very unprofessional contractor and would warn people to carefully interview and keep that in mind when interacting with him.
