My experience with R York Construction is limited to one small job, a concrete walkway 3' x 22' which their subcontractor (an experienced concrete man with very little English, but two strong workers) nicely accomplished in a journeyman fashion and in one day. The bid was reasonable and so I accepted it. But it was impossible to get this outfit to return to remove the form work. I waited nearly a week before tackling it myself. I only hesitated because I'd recentlty undergone back surgery and was instructed not to lift, pull, tug, shove, hammer, or otherwise work my back. But I wanted the form work off so that I could plant a shrub. I removed it, trashed the small pieces of wood, and put the long 2 x 4s in the alley -- where they remained, no matter how many times Dru Gash, the representative, promised to have them removed. I would have withheld final payment until they were done, but their Christian identifier on their business card suggested to me that I was dealing with ethical people. "You are ethical, right?" I asked upon signing their contract. He wanted too much money in front, before the job was done, and wanted to be paid in full before the forms were removed. I did not anticipate this wrinkle. After one last call, I paid a neighbor to haul off the 2 x 4s -- the entire project is a surprise for my wife who is returning home today, so I couldn't wait any longer. I strongly recommend against using an unethical contractor who is not as good as his word.
