  Rick Beard is the best custom home builder I've ever worked with. He was very open for my ideas and he did a great job on my apartment home add on. The walls were the right color, a tan/beige, and the baseboards were nicely finished. To Rick, thank you very much for this amazing apartment for my mother. It is so good.

  Poor custom home builder

  I purchased a home from Rick Beard "Custom Homes" in 2013. The house was beautiful from the outside and from what we could see on the inside as well. When we moved is when we began to see how poorly this "custom house" was built. There was a lot of cosmetic issues from the beginning that we asked to have repaired. As in, paint that was different colors, baseboards that were not sanded down or even painted. Water damage to baseboards where possible there was a leak or toilet overflowed prior to move in. Cabinets that were not stained and walls that were not textured right and were bowing out. We have been in the home for a little over 2 years. I am absolutely baffled on the poor construction and cheap materials Rick used to build this house. This is not a home we built with Rick Beard. It was already built that was unfinished. We have had one problem after another. With plumbing issues to AC problems as well. We have already had to have the AC/Heat system rebuily because room would not cool off and or heat. Our water heater was broke prior to move in. Our toilet was leaking. Our celling fell through from a pipe that was leaking in the attack. And now we have another leak in our attack that is now showing water damage in our living room. When we run the hot water in the kitchen, you can hear dripping in the wall. The list goes on and on. He had to come back a handful of times to fix things and was rude and arrogant as if it wasn't his problem. Thankfully we got a good warranty on the home and are covered. But I am afraid to know what else we will have to deal with in the upcoming future. This man does not take pride or care about his workmanship. I would NEVER EVER recommend buying anything from this man. It's so sad that after 2 years and thinking you are buying your dream home, I am still dealing with all these problems. Here are just one list of items that we gave him:
  Outside:
  • Mortar between bricks and rocks on front of house cracked (picture attached)
  • Holes in mortar where nails were taken out and never patched

  Kitchen:
  • When running the dishwasher or hot water from kitchen sink, there is a dripping sound from ceiling between living room area and kitchen
  • Dishwasher unstable or improperly installed and there is a gap in flooring where floor was not tiled (picture attached)
  • Exhaust fan above stove vibrates and makes noise when on
  • No exhaust outlet for exhaust fan above stove
  • Wall under bar area has poor texture. This has already been fixed once, but still looks horrible (picture attached)

  Living Room:
  • Wall bowing in living room and separating from tile (picture attached)
  • Crack in ceiling by the right air vent (picture attached)

  Master Bathroom:
  • Missing grout next to master bathtub (picture attached)
  • Master bath has bulging in wall (picture attached)
  • Master shower faucet not working properly (Does not rotate fully)

  3rd Bathroom
  • Swelling in left corner of ceiling

  Misc. Items:
  • Closet by garage door has dried paint drops down wall
  • Missing grout or cracking on tiled floors
  • Grout cracking in showers or missing grout in areas
  • 4th bedroom closet has unpainted trim and holes showing where nailed in
