We contracted with Mr. Rich Conti to complete this work on the bathroom on our third floor in December of 2017. The job he was doing was for the bathroom in an apartment that was occupied by tenants, and would mean they would be without a shower during the time he was working. We went with him based on referrals from friends and after seeing work he had done in other homes. A deposit of $5661 was paid on 12/20/17 and a check was cashed by him in that amount. This was to be used for materials for the job, and we were assured that the materials had been purchased and paid for. The work was to begin on Monday 1/29/18 and I was assured that this was a small project and would not take more than 5 days to complete in full. Mr. Conti showed up to demo the old tub on Wednesday 1/31/18, and then again to place the tub on Friday 2/2/18. After 5 days, the photos I have uploaded was all that had been completed by Mr. Conti. He assured me that he would show up that weekend and complete the work, but he never showed up. I was assured that the work would be completed on Monday, and he never showed. I was assured that he would show up on Tuesday, and he never showed. On Wednesday, I cancelled the contract and informed him that his services were no longer needed.
I contacted ACR Home Remodeling, and they informed me that he had ordered the materials for the job, but still owed a $300 balance before they could be picked up. I paid the balance and had the materials delivered to my home on 2/8/18.
Another check in the amount of $1560 was cashed by him on 1/11/18 for additional materials in our other bathroom. After contacting ACR Remodeling (where the supplies were to be ordered purchased from) I was informed that he had discussed the order with them, but had never placed the order or paid for it, despite cashing the check.
He left his tools in the tub, running the risk of scratching the tub before it was even installed.
Now we have to hire another contractor to complete the work, and take him to small claims court to get our money back. I can't suggest strongly enough, based on the evidence and our direct experience, that you NEVER work with Rich Conti, or RJ Conti Construction.
