I don’t even know where to begin. We've done MANY large projects before, none of which seemed to go as sideways as this one. I’m going to share both the positive and negative, although the negative far outweighed any positive.
To start, we found Gina to be incredibly disorganized. Because Gina was rarely around, she never knew what step was next was. After one part was finished, the project would stall until WE reached out to let her asking about next steps. There were times we waited WEEKS for materials that were sitting in our driveway. One of the contractors remarked that he framed an ENTIRE home in less time than it took to frame our deck due to the mismanagement of materials.
In addition to being disorganized, Gina seemed to lack the experience necessary to handle a large job. Ie, which order certain things came in, how to coordinate with her contractors, etc. So we watched her stumble through this project. In the beginning we just felt bad for her because she seemed so frazzled and over her skiis on our project that we didn’t want to upset her. We had a curve in our deck and the project sat on hold for 6 weeks because she didn’t know that she could start the refacing without the curved boards until WE researched it and found a way to start while we were waiting for one piece.
She double charged us for several things and lacked an understanding of basic math. We had to go to her at LEAST twice to explain how she already charged us for the same thing in another line item. Like legitimately, she had to come over and we had to do math with a pencil, paper and calculator in front of her on several occasions. We had to pull out camera footage to verify that her guys worked 24 hours, not the 48 that she was charging us for
Gina was very responsive, however when she did respond she would answer only part of the questions and give incomplete answers whenever there was something a bit more complex to discuss.
At first we though we were crazy. But every single one of her sub contractors told us that she was an absolute mess, had no idea what she was doing and was the cause of many of the issues that were created. They also told us that they heard these same complaints from all of her customers, but I of course did not hear that from those people personally. They also told us that she doubles and triples their fees and materials and that she’s “ripping everyone off”. Their words, not mine. But her initial quotes were somewhat inline with others that we had received.
We found Gina to lacking in integrity. We found her to have lied on several occasions. We found her to have mislead us on several occasions. And we found her lacking the integrity to own mistakes that she made, basic oversights that we ALL make as human beings. It was always someone else’s fault, even when it was obviously hers.
All of the sub contractors she hired were excellent, and pleasant to work with except the plumbers. We notified her of a gas leak on no less than 4 occasions, and it actually took her and the plumber 10+ days to even come out for a GAS LEAK and 5 attempts to fix it. We had to turn the gas off for 10 days while they waited to find the time to send someone out. But additionally, we found ONE of the plumbers to be not only rude but a disgusting misogynist.
Some of her contractors did substantial damage to our home, that she refused to cover. We took a few minor pieces of the project out, she refused to reduce the price (although she was pretty quick to give us a bill for tiny little things that we added).
In the end, we were told that it would be a 4-6 week project that took 21 weeks. After ripping up our deck she didn’t even start refacing it for 6+ weeks. And even at that we had to specifically instruct her HOW to do it.
The bottom line is that perhaps this company MIGHT do a good job if it’s a small one. But we found Gina is so lacking in basic integrity and so untrustworthy that I wouldn’t hire her to build a pillow fort, nevermind a 1000 square foot deck with both gas and electric elements.
