    Build a house
    $350,000

    I cannot put any stars, but the system is set to require a star (but I recall that star). Scott King, Contracting built a custom home for us five years ago (2015). We were a military family retiring to our hometown after 23 years of service. My spouse is also a 100% service-connected, disabled Veteran. Our siding is falling apart. When we contacted Scott King Contracting to ask about receipts and warranties for what we thought we had, Hardie Cement Fiber Siding, we were surprised when he told us it was Certainteed. (We had specifically asked for Hardie Board). Certainteed is a bad product, acknowledged by the company and now discountinued (actually discontinued in 2015). We got multiple quotes for repairs - every single company and contractor has told us the siding is not the only issue - the installation was wrong. Poorly done, incorrectly installed. No one does patch work on this product because it voids the warranty of the new product being installed and the way it has to be removed (top down) doesn't allow for this type of "fix" anyhow. So, the product he purchased 1) was faulty, 2) super cheap, so 3) we can barely reclaim any costs for the damaged product via the warranty. Likewise, the proper installation of the product was not followed. We are having to pay out of pocket to replace our siding, and in the process finding multiple short cuts, poor workmanship, trim held on with brad nails, non-galvanized screws (which are all rusted) and a one inch gap where our trim meets the porch roof, so we are now waiting to find out if/how much water damage we have (which will now require that we remove a few rows of shingles). We have also found multiple inconsistencies (smooth, woodgrain, different sizes) in the trim/boards he did use, which further affirms he pieced things together (and hoped we wouldn't notice).

    Our most recent discovery is that a load bearing corner of house is completely rotted (5 year old home). We are waiting to find out if there is mold behind the rotten framing...which literally falls apart like paper.

    I would, not under any circumstances, recommend this contractor. He has extended no help, his insurance does not cover poor workmanship. I think this says it all. We are disappointed, angry and overwhelmed with the expenses we are having to figure out how to pay to keep our home safe and to prevent further damage. The fact that he knew were we a military family heading into retirement makes us even more disappointed. We certainly feel like we were taken advantage by this contractor.
