Hired Shaban Construction to do a complete remodel of my mother's house inside and out after an SUV crashed into it on March of 2020. The contractor agreed on the settlement received from insurance company. Stated that it was fair and sufficient to fix and update everything. He was advised that this was a time critical project and needed to be done in fair and timely manner. Shaban Construction delayed the start date by 3 months. He said it would take 7 weeks to complete the project. It was agreed that he would make this project a top priority and use multiple crews simultaneously inside and out to make up for delays. This never happened.
The owner would send in a skeleton crew of 2 people and on several occasions 5 people for half a day before sending them to another job site to work on personal house flips. Mr. Shaban treats this project like a side job. Shaban Construction has had full access to the house 24/7 and has made little progress. Last time Shaban construction worked on the house was September 18th, 2021 and walked away from the job.
Shaban Construction was paid $49,000 upfront due to Covid for material and fixture shortages and price hikes. He has breached completion date of May 19th, 2021 and refuses to provide a final completion date. I have reached out to the owner on many occasions via phone, text and email and he refuses to respond to all methods of communications. Mr. Shaban also refuses to reply to the homeowners insurance company and provide them receipts for code upgrade and recoverable depreciation for completed work. Mr. Shaban also refuses to respond to the Johnson County Contractor Licensing Agency that I had contacted regarding this matter.
Mr. Shaban has given me a long list of excuses why he couldn’t show up: -His truck was stolen-Waiting on paint chips-Waiting on windows for sunroom-Worker tested positive for Covid-Once he ran out of excuses, he fabricated a story that I owe him more money for change order- I never changed anything. He was asked to remove the fabricated charges and finish the job he was paid to do.
His crew was cutting trees in backyard and putting up sheet rock in garage instead of working on main part of the house. He was using the money and his crew for his personal house flips and to increase car inventory on his car lot.
Mr. Shaban actually owes me money for items he left off of Scope of Work for his own financial gain, such as not pouring a new stem wall on east side of garage. I can provide a complete list. I asked him to remove the fictitious charges at our last meeting on November 17th, 2021.
Public records show that Mr. Shaban was arrested and booked (#21009647) for domestic battery in Overland Park, and is also under investigation for sexual battery (case #2021021395 with OPPD) on a roommate. He also did not show up for a court case on Thursday, July 14th, 2022 according to court records on jococourts.org. - There was a default judgement for plaintiff -Bank of America case #22LA02904 against defendant - Mr. Shaban according to court records. I’m not sure if he’s incarcerated since he will not take my calls or return them.
Shaban Construction has many fake 5 star reviews on Google written by friends and family members, including his wife Ha Bui. The fake reviews are easy to spot and do background check on. Many of the reviews were written shortly after my review went up.
Waleed “Will” Shaban and his wife Ha T. Bui are also under investigation of The Federal Trade Commission.
Mr. Shaban was friendly and responsive until he was paid. I would not consider using Shaban Construction in the future for any projects and would never recommend his company.
