By Aaron A.June 13, 2020Finish 2 b/r in basement, build new shower repaint basement to match$25,000
I don’t even know where to start, Sam Vogl owner of simply built llc was hired to finish 2 b/r 1 bath and repaint the rest of basement to match I was told by Sam that it would take 3 to 4 weeks to finish the job I fired Sam Vogl at the start of week 8 this is why my bathroom was to be done all in different tiles my floor tiles are uneven and grouted wrong the shower has no drain pan in the bottom Of the floor tiles are uneven, not sloped to the drain, the shower will not drain, the tiles are covered in glue and grout, so all the tile has to be torn out and redone, bedroom1 closet shelves/entertainment center. Built with particle board and it cannot be painted the corners and drawers they are broken off and do not match up, bedroom 1and 2 both have pvt flooring and have paint all over them neither one was primerd before paint so the paint just peels off, entertainment center was a total nightmare built and rebuilt 2 times and still a complete disaster 1-2” gaps in between wall and shelves tried to cover it up wit chunks of wood and glue And car bondo then tried to cover it up with paint. There are a dozen more damaged or wrong items to list but I’m getting sick thinking about all of it every piece of work has to be torn out and redone. Please be aware of simply built llc of south Jordan, Sam vogl. He is a fraud...

Just like the review from Aaron A., I don't even know where to start. Working with Sam from Simply Built has been a complete nightmare! He is one of the nicest guys and it is easy to be fooled by him. We hired him to move our fireplace and rebuild it with built ins, stone, new mantle, etc., to remodel our kitchen with new cabinets, counters and backsplash, to add a built in desk & shelving in our study and to add a loft above our entryway which would add a little space upstairs. He gave us a quote and a 10 week finish date. His policy is divide the total quote by the number of weeks and start making weekly payments. He would stay on schedule, be at our home for every sub contractor and do all the communicating with subs, do all the paperwork for the building permit, be present for the inspections, etc. We decided to move forward and we started making payments. We reached payments of $20,000 and then there were so many "red flags" or "hiccups" as Sam calls them that we stopped payments until more work was completed. When we reached $20,000 we only had our fireplace moved, we were in the middle of chaos. Sam had completed the demo on our kitchen prior to our cabinets being ready. He had told us we were being held up due to the city not issuing a permit. We went and spoke to the city and they didn't even have an application for a permit from Sam. When we called him out on it, he admitted to lying and apologized. He committed to us at that point to do better, to get our job done, to be honest and to be at our home for every sub contractor. We decided to give him a 2nd chance. Still nothing moved forward. At this point we were 2 weeks past our finish date and still we were not 1/2 way finished. Sam was never present when subcontractors came. So, the cabinets were wrong, the counters were installed with 2 different colors of stone w/ a seam, electrical work was incorrect, texture on the wall was incorrect. The flooring sub came and was unaware he was installing a wood laminate floor and he didn't have a saw to cut the planks. We had to run and go find a saw for him to get our job finished. The drywall guy came and was unaware of the job and what he was patching and was unable to finish the job. Every sub that came to our house was unaware of the job and what they were there to do. Sam missed several appointments with many different excuses: his truck overheated [I offered to send my husband to help him...thinking he was stranded on the side of the road], he forgot his ladder [we offered a ladder for him to use], family emergencies... He always had an excuse for not being here or for the next "hiccup" in the project. He built a new mantle and it was terrible! Within hours of installing it, it cracked and split and wasn't even level. The cabinet guy even mentioned it looked as if it was built out of particle board. Any framing that was completed had gaps and the new drywall guys we hired had to use shims to make the drywall "perfect." The framing was terrible. Sam wasn't present for the measuring of the cabinets and built ins and he wasn't present for any installations. Apparently, the cabinet guy "forgot" we had a dishwasher! So, he didn't cut any holes in our new cabinets for a dishwasher! Then, he "forgot" we had a big front window and realized the drawers for our new desk wouldn't open! It never stopped! The fireplace had to be completed rewired since Sam didn't wire it correctly. We had to buy a new water purification system...which, we stressed multiple times to be careful and not lose any of the pieces. Apparently, Sam threw away pieces to our system which can only be purchased from Superior Water. Then, we picked out our stone and gave very specific instructions for how we wanted it and what we needed. Sam didn't order any corner pieces! So, we waited another 2 weeks to have those ordered. Our entire experience with Sam from Simply Built was a nightmare and pure chaos. Finally, we decided to fire him and part ways after we were 4 weeks past our finish date and still not even 1/2 way finished. At this point we had been without a kitchen and without water for 4 weeks due to Sam removing everything prior to getting the new kitchen scheduled. He obviously owed us money since we had made payments and work wasn't completed. He wrote us out a check for the first refund and we didn't have an issue with it. Then, he dropped off a check for a $2,000 more refund and it bounced. Sam Vogl is a fraud. His business is a fraud and I would not recommend him to anyone. He is extremely nice, but don't be fooled.
