We hired an inspector, Chris Godfrey, from Spector Ltd. to examine the laminate floor in the house we recently purchased which had been "remodeled" just prior to us moving in. The floor creaks and cracks throughout the house when walked on. It also has visible buckling. While Chris was doing the inspection, he stated: 'I hope the floor can be saved'. However, Chris's report, which cost $350, was disappointingly vague having no clear recommendation for a remedy other than having the floor trimmed around the edges to allow expansion. He noted the buckling, which was in a doorway exactly where a break in the flooring had been made, but never-the-less, indicated more breaks ('every 20' or so) would help eliminate the buckling and creaking. He did not include a cost estimate in the report but told us we should get 2 estimates from other flooring specialists, which we did. Both were C-15 licensed and both told us that the floor had so many issues that merely trimming it, although they were willing to do so, would most likely not fix the problems. Both stated the floor would have to be replaced. Although Chris acknowledged this possibility with his statement, above, during the inspection, (which he has since denied saying) he did not include it in his report and when we asked him to do so he refused and became indignant at our request. It seems clear that there is always the possibly, after trying easier fixes such as trimming, that the floor would have to be replaced. Not only did Chris refuse to add this but he has accused us of trying to "dictate what (he) puts in (his) reports". Unprofessional and costly. Would NOT recommend him nor this "service".
