Tim handled our home addition very poorly. I’ve since learned that his experience is primarily in building decks, which might have been the problem. He went way over budget, took much longer than planned, and repeatedly made mistakes and failed inspections. Then he blamed us and charged us for “change orders” to fix the work to meet code (it did eventually pass inspection, but I’ve never had a contractor do work that failed inspections, let alone multiple times). He was really hard to work with too, particularly when things didn’t go as planned. I think an addition was too far outside his area of expertise. If you’re considering hiring him, be sure to get referrals from the people who own the homes he shows you in his binder. Be sure to verify that those jobs were completed well, and he didn’t just get a few shots that made it look good. And certainly have him pull a permit for the work so you know it’s up to code.
