    replace existing deck
    $10,000

When we hired Mark Dalton and his firm in June, 2021, the company's reviews were great. We got two other bids and went with Technique because the bid was competitive and he had an idea how to work our new deck around our existing wisteria and lilac. The job required tearing out the entire old deck (not attached to the house). This was not a big job, so we assumed we were not a high priority, but we still coughed up close to $5000 up front, then had to pay a little more when he realized he had mismeasured and we needed a few more feet of railing and Trex. The construction team showed up late in the summer to tear out the old deck, and we assumed that the new deck would be installed shortly after. Well, it's almost 14 months later and what we have is an infrastructure that's been sitting there so long the paint they used on the wood is now peeling in places and Trex that's been laid on half the infrastructure, leaving a hole we can't step across safely to enjoy what deck we have. The stairs were framed but not finished, so we can't even walk our deck furniture up onto the deck. We kept thinking "they can't take any longer" so left the furniture out, and it suffered damage over the winter. We're getting treated the same as many other people are pointing out (look on Home Advisor, who connected us with these guys). Pretty much the last insult was that (bear in mind the contract asked for half up front, then partial pay of the balance as the work progressed, which is pretty standard) was Mark asking for the entire balance a few months ago because "prices have gone up so much since I made the bid, I need you to pay now just so I can afford to buy the materials." It's not that we're not sympathetic (he and his wife have multiple life-changing medical problems, but he doesn't actually do the work) but if he'd ordered the materials 14 months ago when we signed the contract, this wouldn't have been a problem. We have no evidence at this point that he didn't just take our money and skip town, leaving us with half a deck and a failing infrastructure that sat out all winter. So many of these problems, bad feelings, and horrible reviews could have been prevented if he would just proactively communicate, or at least answer texts, emails, and phone messages (and we've tried all 3 lots of times). He's basically leaving us no option but to pursue legal action.

Complete Remodel of our front and backyard
    $51,000

Mark came out and gave us a bid on our project which was a complete remodel of our entire yard.. mark told myself and my husband that he could do it for a decent price … WOW were we wrong he told us he would have the project completed by the end of summer.. well let’s fast forward to now here a YEAR later and our project is not completed… we have called, texted left voicemails and mark refuses to return our calls or texts.. through out this process there has been one excuse after another as to why they didn’t come out when they said they would … now getting to the actual placement of grass , trees and shrubs which I may add that most have died because he waited to plant everything right before winter last year and the rest until the spring of this year… our grass was to be a blue Kentucky hybrid grass with no weeds well let me tell you it is full of Bermuda grass blade grass and a ton of morning glory that I am struggling to get rid of… that’s not the half of it .. BEYOND frustrated.. we have asked fir a refund several times and still nothing

    Sprinklers, resloping, grading
    $8,000

Mark was very unprofessional and dishonest. Before signing the contract he was very kind & very convincing that he knew what he was doing. We hired him for sprinkler system, grading, & re-slope yard against house. We had 1 1/2 months before Fall2020 when we had to seed. He said he would start our job next week and have it done less then 2 weeks. He also told us if he didn't start it next week it would be to late to do sprinklers that year due to hard ground from cold weather. We told him we wanted to lay Cement patio first before sprinklers, he told us BAD idea. Lay sprinklers first. convinced us that anyone that said different didn't know what they were talking about. So we signed the contract & paid 50% down & didn't hear from him for over 2 weeks. We called & texted him several times which he ignored every attempt. almost 3 weeks later we were about to report him, he finally called my husband back. He then gave him an excuse that some of his equipment had broken and he wouldn't be able to start our job till next week. we were just so happy he finally called us back & didn't run off with our down payment. He did some of the work which took him longer then the 2 weeks, again had plenty of excuses for why it took him so long. He didn't reslope the yard at that time like we had asked & told us it was because the cement wasn't in yet but he let us know he would come back after the cement is done and reslope it. we told him we would pay for the sloping once that part of the job is done, which he agreed was completely fine. When we had him come back in to reslope it he said he already did last October when he didn't really. At this time it was end of April when he came back. He told us we needed to pay him for it even though he didn't really do it in October. When I tried to talk to him about it, he interrupted me and wouldn't let me say anything. He wouldn't listen to me. I tried to tell him either finish the job so we can pay you or take that portion off of the bill. He wouldn't even let me finish talking so I never got that much out. He just started to yell at me and told me he would take me to court and have all of his team testify against me and that they would testify that he did do the resloping in October. He continued to yell at me for about 5 mins anf then hung up on me, then blocked my number so I couldn't call him back. He wasn't even willing to listen to me. So much more happened with this company, This is some of the biggest things that happened, He told us so many lies all along the entire job. so surprised, so unprofessional, i couldn't believe it
