Working with Jeff D’Antonio and The J. Danton company was the absolute worst home renovation experience we ever had and we do not recommend them. We contacted with the J. Danton Company to renovate our bedroom and master bathroom, to be completed in approximately 3 weeks per the contract. We had done three other major renovations using a different general contractor and at least 6 other smaller renovations using general contractors or individual tradesmen, so we were not novices to the home renovation experience and knew what to expect. Unfortunately, Mr. D’Antonio and the J. Danton Co. fell far short of these expectations.
- After the third week of work and the job only partially complete, we had an issue with the shower tile installation. After some negotiation, Mr. D’Antonio agreed to redo the tile in the shower. Part way through reinstall, work stopped and neither he nor his crew ever returned, leaving us with an incomplete and unfunctional master suite.
- After four weeks of the job remaining idle, we decided to terminate the contract. We negotiated a refund settlement for work not completed and provided Mr. D ’Antonio and the J. Danton Co. a contract termination agreement.
- Mr. D’Antonio “delivered” the termination agreement and refund check, leaving it on our front steps, even though we were home at the time. He texted us more than two hours later to inform us he had dropped it off.
- Mr. D’Antonio had unilaterally edited the termination agreement, changing the terms, and shorted the refund payment by $1,000.
- After employing the services of a lawyer to threaten legal action, we received an additional check for the missing $1,000.
- After bringing in another general contractor, it became apparent that there were several issues with the quality of the previous work, including the new shower wall not being plumb, the new door not being level, shower drain not installed properly, and the use of Behr paint instead of the requested Benjamin Moore.
