One of the worst experiences I've had with a company in a really long time.
We got a quote for a to renovate our kitchen/open a wall into our living room.
We should have known from the beginning with the lack of communication that things weren't going to go well, but we decided to give Mike the benefit of the doubt.
All seemed well up until the end. It was 2 weeks after the job started, on a Friday morning, and Mike stated they were going to be done by end of day and were looking to get paid on the last portion of the project. Fine, the job is done, we pay our final payment. However, when I went in Friday morning I was concerned how they would be finished the job so quickly with so much still to be done. Well, they rushed it, that's how.
To start, they convinced me to do an HORRIBLE crown molding option. Basically, they didn't level the ceiling when re-drywalling it. so with an uneven ceiling, comes problems with crown molding. The crown molding touched the ceiling on one cabinet, but was 2 inches below on another cabinet. Instead of doing a back fill with another piece of trim/crown molding, mike and his associate told me that would look very silly and to just do the crown molding with half of it on the ceiling the other half off the ceiling. I was the dumby and trusted them and said "ok i trust your opinion!" Well, 1. it looks ridiculous. 2. every other contractor i've spoken to since then says that the backfill is what the solution would be, it just takes more work and time. LOL.
After the job was rushed on Friday we took a look and said ok, he asked for his money and we gave it to him. We should have known better and taken a few days to look at everything....
To start:
They didn't predrill the holes for the cabinet handles, so the wood is split on the backs of each cabinet - mike screamed at me that "this is normal!! use the touch up kit it'll be fine!"
Next, the cabinet handles themselves are crooked and uneven on every door, it looks like a 10 year old did it.
The cabinet doors themselves do not sit flush with eachother, even when i adjust the levels of the doors, theres at least 1/8th an inch difference between the bottoms of the cabinet doors.
They also switched the hinges that a door was on, and just left the holes there and didn't even try to make it look half presentable. When I asked about this - Mike said "because you told us to" I was baffled. Because I told you to? No i didn't, I NEVER told anyone to change and direction of the way the doors open. He responded that "Wayne would never change the sides of the doors without you telling him to". Well, once I had a contractor come look at it, they put the two corner cabinets on the wrong sides, so instead of fixing it, they just switched the sides the doors were on.
The list can go on and on, and when we tried to talk to Mike about this his response was that of yet again, a 10 year old.
He screamed at us that the job was done right, everything we were saying was defended and justified and that this is all normal stuff. Which clearly it isn't. (Not to mention, he is supposed to come back to install and window and said "I don't think were gonna come back to install the window it just isn't going to work". . OK - it's not going to work because your customers are calling you about problems they have with the kitchen you did? Childish - but we don't want you doing a crap job on the window anyways.
We asked him to come out and just LOOK at it before defending it and yelling at us as to why it was right and he refused. He tried to tell me that splits in the doors are normal, that I agreed to the crown molding so why do I have a problem now, and that theres nothing wrong with the way the cabinets are lined up..
In the end he gave us $500 back and said "don't even talk to me again." We really wanted him to just come LOOK at the job that was done and explain how this can all be right? But again he refused .
All in all it was a poor job, mediocre at best, and I regret using this company and I certainly regret dealing with Mike. He is the most unprofessional human I have dealt with in a really long time.
