I rarely write reviews, but feel compelled to warn others of what they may be getting themselves into with this business (a lawsuit!). I've been threatened with a suit in San Diego, and have found other home owners of the greater Los Angeles area who HAVE been sued by Michael Altshuler of Top to Bottom Landscaping. I met with Michael Altshuler for a "free" consultation at my home in San Diego. After fully discussing my wants and needs for my yard, I paid Michael a $1000.00 deposit. We agreed he would next return with a plan for my yard. I should have seen the writing on the wall, when, ONE day before our meeting Michael cancelled our appointment to follow up on a small claims case proceeding in LA (according to his email). By time we finally got together, I was very happy to be able to move forward with my project. Unfortunately, Michael didn't come with a plan -just a few very bad ideas; like placing a gate in front of a window, and creating a 3 foot wide dead space along the length of my back wall - he stated he suggested this so I would be able to take care of my neighbor's plants! I was disappointed, but knew that moving forward with Michael on this project was throwing good money after bad. I asked Michael if I owed him anything before he left, and he said I did not owe him anything until he gave me a plan. It made me sick to throw away $1000.00, but I decided not to move forward with Michael. I let him know in a pleasant email that we would not be working together, and I did not ask for a return of the deposit. Soon afterwards, I received a letter from his attorney claiming I broke a contract with Michael, and demanding I pay an additional $2000 or face legal consequences. Next, my young son was accosted in our drive way by a very large man (waving "court papers"). This man stood between my son and the front door -forcing my son, who felt threatened, to retreat through the back/side yard. I now fear I need to retain an attorney.
